Amazon Launches Kindle Software Update

The latest software version of Kindle 2 and Kindle DX is now available for download. The new update adds several improvements to these gadgets such as a built-in PDF reader, a manual screen rotation and a longer battery life. Amazon Kindle owner can download the software update automatically when the wireless connection is activated. During the update, you will see screens that show the update progress. The update should take less than 10 minutes and is complete when Kindle displays the Home screen. Do not power off or reset your Kindle until the update is complete. Available in 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, and 16GB of storage capacities, the gadget is powered by a 5-inch (800×600) e-ink display with 16 grayscale level, a 400Mhz Samsung 2416 CPU, and a mini USB port for data transfer. The Txtr is a new eBook reader that was debuted at a book fair in Germany. Measuring 151mm x 12mm and weighing 300grams, the Amazon Kindle competitor will be available in Germany in December 2009 for around $500. The Txtr features a 6-inch (600 x 800) display with orientation sensor, a 8GB of storage (SDHC), a 532Mhz CPU, and a 64MB of RAM.
