It should be mentioned that the new 750i’s with those specs aren’t nearly that cheap. Two ATi 4870×2′s themselves would be over 1000 USD (this is however made clear in the original Engadget article

Yes, the specs listed are nowhere close to the price that is listed. The configuration listed from Alienware is nearly 5 grand, not just over 1,000. A QX9650 processor runs about a grand alone and (as aforementioned by Jvnk, dual ATI 4980 X2′s run over a grand as well. Not saying this post is incorrect over all, just misleading. Again, however, this fact was made more clear in the original Engadget article. Just a misleading post.
