ASUS today has introduced the Xonar D2, which is the company’s first dedicated sound card based on the newer AV200 processor. ASUS claims that its brand new PCI-based sound card is “fully aware of Dolby Digital and DTS signals for processing movie audio, and for recording includes a special application called the Portable Media Processor.” This software uses “analog loopback transformation built into the card to create near-lossless copies from most sources.” The Xonar should be available soon as an add-on for existing PCs. No word on pricing so far.
