Capture 3D Images on the Move

This stripe projection 3D sensor from Fraunhofer IOF helps compose a 3D model, simply by projecting a stripe pattern onto the subject, using the couple of “eyes” to capture slightly distinct angles of the image based on the deducted geometry. While this type of technology has been around for some time, it is now being put to use because of its capabilities especially for police officers, or in medicine. The researchers will showcase the sensor at the Control trade fair in Stuttgart, Germany, April 21-25. [Photonics]
