Hitachi promised to release a 3.5-inch HDD with a 1TB capacity this year. This massive capacity hard drive will be dubbed as the Deskstar 7K1000 and will carry a $399 price tag when it comes out. Seagate Technology will also come out with a 1TB drive in the first half of 2007. The two companies will show off their hybrid hard drive prototypes at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
Currently, Hitachi sells 3.5-inch HDD that hold 500GB of data, while Seagate has come out with a 750GB hard drive. You can compare these 3.5-inch hard drives with the first hard drive in the world that weighed about a ton and held just 5MB of data.
