Kodak comes back with two new All-in-One printers in the form of the ESP 7 and ESP 9. The ESP 7 printer features a large 3 inch LCD display, USB and memory card slots for easy image preview, and can connect to the computers/ laptops via Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Meanwhile, the ESP 9 offers fax capability, an auto-document feeder, and an integrated duplexer. It has a 10 inch one-touch control panel that makes printing, copying, scanning and faxing easy. The Kodak ESP 7 and ESP 9 are currently available for $199.99 and $299.99, respectively. [FarEastGizmos]

Just a quick comment about the “NEW ESP-7″. The first one I received worked the first day and broke the second day. Something about the paper jam error message. There was no paper jam. Sent it back when I received the new one. The new one broke as well. Keep getting a Print error code 6202. Now I’m being told (by Kodak) I will have to send this one back. Third times a charm right?
I have the same proble. Waited for over 2 hours on hold for tech help. So much for the inexpensive print cartidge!
ESP-7, new printer. Took over an hour to install software, ecery time I checked website to update, it automatically downloaded the full software.
Scanner wouldn’t scan and still doesn’t, just sits ther etellig=ng me its scanning.
Did have good service on direct chat with Kodak but had to rease main program ( 10 mins) then download another “rease program” as uninstall leaves tidbits behind.
Then printing the colours were perfect on plain white paper but very unbalanced on Kodak premium paper. Was told to download latest firmware.
The computer first said the usb cable was not connected, printer not found
then when the firmware strted to load it halted halfway through but the printer said, “Do not turn off until firmware loaded”. It refused to budge and won’t load – the firmware is corrupted. Can this be erased and firmware laoded again?
This run around is crazy its like this product was designed in a pipe dream. The printer prints well and photo prints are fairly good but a company like Kodak. Get serious. This is going back for a refund if I can ‘ resolve the problems without paying a huge shipping charge
Paper tray is very limited, and you will find yourself adding paper everday. The Ink is used up pretty fast, exptect to use at lease one black per week. I used up the year supply I bought with my printer is less than 3 months. My HP ink lasted much longer. I’m now spending more money in ink than my old HP.
I’m experancing the same problems with the down loads stating the usb cable not connected
now tonight 4/2/09 I have the paper jam problem and I can’t find any paper jam and also error 6202 as well.
I also felt that I didn’t get near as many document printed as I did with my HP
still waiting for kodak online chat
Further to my earlier posting. I have rectified all my problems although the scanning function is quite slow , it wil scan several photos at once and permit different file names for each. Quality is really quite good.
My earlier problems were rectified when I got the software properly downloaded It is time consuming and should be much easier. Service on line chat were very helpful but the direct talk 1-800 number produced the best results. I needed a new print head and hope these don’t clog up easily due to lack of use as they are $70 each. Mine was under warranty and delivered the next day which is remarkable..
I am getting fine quality prints.scans and copies. The ink does seem to go down rather fast and indicates replcement required when it shows about 1/5 full.
I HAVE USED LEXMARK, DELL, AND ARE CURRENTLY USING A CANON OVER THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS, I HAVE BEEN DEAD SET ON PURCHASING A KODAK HOWEVER SINCE READING A FEW COMMENTS (NEGATIVE) I AM MORE CONFUSED THAN EVER MY MAIN OBJECTIVE IS INK CARTRIDGES WITH LEXMARK AND CANON , IT HAS BEEN VERY VERY EXPENSIVE YET, I CANT GET MY MIND OFF OF KODAK SOMEBODY HELP ME I’M ON A FIXED INCOME
My experience since Christmas has been that the factory supplied ink cartridges are low in ink quantity. Subesquent cartridges have proven to last much much longer. I have been scanning old pictures and the quality is excellent. I am using it in a wireless network and it performs equally for three computers. I have been scanning at 300dpi and it takes a while compared to my previous Epson printer. I would imagine 600 dpi scans would test your patience.
If you want to sav e on ink- the Kodak ESP series is the way to go. Be prepared to fiddle a bit. Its worth it.
Just opened my ESP 7, and PAPAER JAM!!! They have to send me a new one. This is crazy. I am sure they re taking all these back and ‘refurbishing’ and putting them right back out there.
URGH!!!
*******FIXED******** PAPER JAM ISSUE!!!!!
I finally figured out the paper jam issue in the ESP series. I figured out there is a cleaning cartridge that comes out on the left side of where the printer cartridges are that blocks the path on certain occasions. It is a stupid qwerky issue that kodak has yet to find and repair but it is an easy fix. All you have to do is slide the cartridge holder to the right and if you reach in to the far left side of the print cartridge track that should just easily pop back into place if you push it in.
Please understand this is a very easy fix but is you are unsure of what i mean I do not recommend trying.
I am not responsible if you damage your printer in the process.
Thanks and Good LUCK!

Re: ESP 7 new printer. How to find in lcd window the choices of connection to computer ?
I am on my 5th replacement printer. I have been on hold with kodak for over an hour (this time) and no I am being told the printer was sent to the wrong address. I am so very disgusted with Kodak and would not recommend this printer to anyone. Received this as a Christmas present( Dec. 2008) and have been able to print out 3 good pictures. Wasted more ink trying to “fix’ the problem as per the techs. Finally got a supervisor who promised me on April 1, 2009 she would have a printer overnighted to her and she would test it before she shipped it out to me. Well on April 7 2009 I received a message on my landline phone from her saying the printer sent to her was not working correctly and she was having another one shipped overnight to her, she would check it and then she would overnight ship it to me. It is April 20, 2009 still no printer and when I called kodak today was told it was shipped to the wrong address. This is insane…..DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CHAD: Have had my ESP 7 since March 7 2009. Today it says paper jam.
Did all the usual steps.
I found “gunk” all along the cartridge track, and a tiny bit of paper 1/16″ sq stuck between the gunk, the cartridge track and the left and right underside of the cartridge case itself. Use a pointed knitting needle to guide a lint free cloth all along the track. All clean, including underside of cartridge case.
Still get PAPER JAM error after long shut down, unplugged.
Appears maybe the cleaning cartridge you mention had not been working.
Have gotten my little hands to the far left of the cartridge track, cannot locate where to “push in”…. any chance you can describe this again? thanx
I have had my Kodak ESP 7 for awhile and I get the paper jam issue every now and then, but now I am getting an error 6202 message and it won’t work at all. Please spare yourself and wait until Kodak gets their act together.
Has anyone tried the firmware updates available on Kodak’s website? I am looking at the ESP 9 and have noticed the firmware on there which I hope will solve the problems.
After only an hour of online research, I called the 800 #. About a 5 min wait. Told the guy in India I my ESP 7 was purchased March 9 2009. Told him I had cleaned it thoroughly, found gunk on the track, cleaned that, was able to easily get all wheels to move, but saw that one of 4 tiny white tabs had broken off (on the back, seen when duplexer is removed). I believe it is lost inside the printer. Based on that, he got the call moving, said a new one was being shipped, I was to return this one, postage prepaid.
It has a 1 yr warrenty. I was still using the intro cartridges that came with the unit!
Not very iimpressed with dullness of color, even tho I bought Kodak paper. I’m printing regular 8.5 x 11 stuff, often knitting patterns. I have a feeling this printer was designed for photographs.
I have to set the paper to the European A4 rather than to “letter” or it automatically makes a 1″ border all along every edge, sometimes cutting off the top of a pdf file.
Glad I bought a 2 yr warrenty for $24.99 at Best Buy.
They really do not have their act together. My HP lasted 6 yrs, but cost of ink was getting crazy, esp for color. Now I’m using a little HP for Black print only and will use the next Kodak for color…
I bought one yesterday & installed everything ok.
Apart from being the noisiest printer i have ever heard.
My problem is printing multiple documents using ms publisher & some accounting software, on my last 2 printers I could select to print as many copies as I needed, on this I have just sat nearly 2 hours printing 40 small documents 1 by 1, if I request more than 1 the printer just spews them out blank!
Live support were totally useless, last night 50 mins and he had only asked me 2 questions I gave up in the end.
Tried again today & he told me he had no knowledge of that problem & couldn`t help!
He finished by asking if there was anything else he could help with, I said you haven`t been any help !
Total crap if I don`t sort this soon then its going back to Comet !
Horrible printer with constant errors. Makes printing impossible, what a waste of money. I am so tired of PRINTER JAM!!! This makes me want to steer clear of anything kodak.
Bought an HP 1520 for my desk and a Brother 685 to replace the multi-functions of the Kodak. Brother is only days old with no problems yet, but it copies and scans well and seems easier to use. It has a full fax feature as well as a speaker phone and other additions over the Kodak that I may or may not use. The HP has already printed twice the pages of the Kodak with cartridges still good at 1.5 the cartridge cost and fits my desk well. It is small enough to carry with me, if needed. AGAIN, so much for the junk Kodak. I paid less for both of these together than for the Kodak. ANYTHING saying Kodak will henceforth make me turn away.
I resolved my paper jam by getting a replacement ESP-7. It installed and set up in no time. I tried printing in color and the resigstration was way off. Replaced the color cartridge and got superb pictures.
The phone line help desk were very prompt and I got my replacement in two days. Ther are some issues with its operation I find frustrating but it does produce quality scans and photos. If your colors are off it may be your color cartridge needs replacing.
Bought this printer b/c of the supposed savings on ink. The cartridges are skimpy – I’ve already replaced both black and color after very little use. Ink goes down much faster than my old HP.
Also, the paper jams all the time! How can I clear it without ripping it and compounding the problem.
I’m not a tekkie but don’t believe one should have to be to use a home printer!
Well, despite all of the comments on here and several reviews I purchased one of the ESP9 printers. The cartridges have been readily available from various stores and the photo paper value packs (which come with a colour cartridge) are a bargain! I have had the odd paperjam but found that generally I have been responsible by being generous with paper in the paper tray or pushing the paper too far into the printer. I have used the cartridges supplied with the printer but purely because I tested every aspect of it – the second ones are lasting… and lasting.. but considering how cheap they are – it would take 3 of these black cartridges to equate to the cost of one HP one.
Photo print quality is superb across the range of Kodak papers, I found the printer very easy to setup and hooked it onto the home wireless network with ease. I would highly recommend these printers and with Kodak’s continued firmware and software updates I am satisfied that any potential bugs are likely to be fixed.
I purchased two ESP-7 printers based on ink cost savings about 40 days ago and have to say at the outset that normal text printing and scanning is OK. These are noisy printers and nothing special for speed considering the price. I have yet to get a good photo print from either printer even with new cartridges and Kodak Premium paper. All photo prints are covered with 1/4″ horizontal bands which are on tone but different in depth of shade. Kodak has replaced the printheads on both with no improvement except an occasional print with fewer or smaller bands which tech support cannot explain. One printer was so bad that it was replaced with an obvious referb. The replacement printer had similar streaks on all photos and regular 8.5×11 paper began jamming so frequently that I reinstalled my old, worn but useable Epson C880 (never had a problem with the print head). Kodak tech support had me upgrade the printer’s firmware and unbelievably the paper jams stopped! However, both printers still will not print acceptable photos. If anyone has been successful returning printers to Kodak, please advise the rest of us. I’m planning to request the return of both…enough is enough.
Note: The savings on ink and the highly touted nonexistent “Lab Quality Prints” cannot offset the wasted time and the loss of confidence I and others have experienced with Kodak printers.
If Kodak is listening, please email us and discuss our options.
my prob;em is the same as (Stephen Guy June 17, 2009 at 2:35 pm). is there a file to downgrade back to the original firmware? the problem im having also is that i bought this 6 months ago, and haven’t had a problem until i upgraded the firmware last month, but didn’t use the printer until today–i even cleaned the head with a soft cloth–tech support couldn’t tell me what was wrong.
i wish i had read all of this before i bought it 6 months ago.
I upgraded the firmware when I received a replacement printer and a couple of times have had to clean the heads( maintenance menu). I find the printhead doesn’t like old paper and the black density is next to nil. Placing fresh paper in it does the job much better. But , hey my old Epson printer calnks away and copies come out perfectly black.
After receiving a replacement printer I’ve had very few problems but I sure don’t want to check for software upgrades. These printers much have shortened Kodak’s learning curve on new technology.
I have a Kodak ESP 7. It drives me crazy. It jams incessantly. It is noisy as hell. Consider yourself lucky if you can print more than one photo before experiencing a jam. As soon as the color cartridge gets low (not empty) expect additional grief. The WiFi connection was sporadic; so I connected it via ethernet. Frequently, my computer still cannot detect the printer. If you haven’t tried connecting with a USB cable, try it. You’ll be encouraged to do a firmware upgrade. The upgrade doesn’t seem to have done me any good. The cartridges do not last very long, but they are comparatively inexpensive. Paper handling is terrible: I’m always trying to insert the optimal number of sheets in order to avoid jams. It does, however, make copies from scans quite well. I suppose that I could call and complain, but as many of the commentators mention you’ll end up with another ESP with similar deficiencies. Kodak needs to get its act together. They encouraged their customers to buy their product with the promise to not rip us off for ink. Now we need somthing that uses the ink effectively by printing consistently well.
Following my June 17 post, Kodak support was notified of the continuing streaked photo problems on my 2 new ESP-7 printers and once again they insisted on sending new printheads for both printers. That’s 3 new printheads for one which includes a replacement (referb) printer and 2 new printheads for the other printer. At $70 per printhead plus shipping and the extended telephone support time, all gratis to date, Kodak must be questioning their wisdom in shortcutting the engineering needed to produce a reliable printer. However, we are the ones paying the price of having made a truly bad purchase decision since most of us cannot simply purchase additional printers until Kodak decides to take these printers back. Please pardon the rant but Kodak should do the right thing or I feel the negative comments on the internet will hurt sales. Cheaper ink plus a seriously flawed printer design does not produce satisfied customers.
Has anyone had any luck getting a refund from Kodak for the ESP 7 POS printer ?
by pushing the cleaning head as noted above i was able to resolve the paper jam issue!!! HURRRRAYYYY!!!!
