Kodak comes back with two new All-in-One printers in the form of the ESP 7 and ESP 9. The ESP 7 printer features a large 3 inch LCD display, USB and memory card slots for easy image preview, and can connect to the computers/ laptops via Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Meanwhile, the ESP 9 offers fax capability, an auto-document feeder, and an integrated duplexer. It has a 10 inch one-touch control panel that makes printing, copying, scanning and faxing easy. The Kodak ESP 7 and ESP 9 are currently available for $199.99 and $299.99, respectively. [FarEastGizmos]

Just a quick comment about the “NEW ESP-7″. The first one I received worked the first day and broke the second day. Something about the paper jam error message. There was no paper jam. Sent it back when I received the new one. The new one broke as well. Keep getting a Print error code 6202. Now I’m being told (by Kodak) I will have to send this one back. Third times a charm right?
I have the same proble. Waited for over 2 hours on hold for tech help. So much for the inexpensive print cartidge!
ESP-7, new printer. Took over an hour to install software, ecery time I checked website to update, it automatically downloaded the full software.
Scanner wouldn’t scan and still doesn’t, just sits ther etellig=ng me its scanning.
Did have good service on direct chat with Kodak but had to rease main program ( 10 mins) then download another “rease program” as uninstall leaves tidbits behind.
Then printing the colours were perfect on plain white paper but very unbalanced on Kodak premium paper. Was told to download latest firmware.
The computer first said the usb cable was not connected, printer not found
then when the firmware strted to load it halted halfway through but the printer said, “Do not turn off until firmware loaded”. It refused to budge and won’t load – the firmware is corrupted. Can this be erased and firmware laoded again?
This run around is crazy its like this product was designed in a pipe dream. The printer prints well and photo prints are fairly good but a company like Kodak. Get serious. This is going back for a refund if I can ‘ resolve the problems without paying a huge shipping charge
Paper tray is very limited, and you will find yourself adding paper everday. The Ink is used up pretty fast, exptect to use at lease one black per week. I used up the year supply I bought with my printer is less than 3 months. My HP ink lasted much longer. I’m now spending more money in ink than my old HP.
I’m experancing the same problems with the down loads stating the usb cable not connected
now tonight 4/2/09 I have the paper jam problem and I can’t find any paper jam and also error 6202 as well.
I also felt that I didn’t get near as many document printed as I did with my HP
still waiting for kodak online chat
Further to my earlier posting. I have rectified all my problems although the scanning function is quite slow , it wil scan several photos at once and permit different file names for each. Quality is really quite good.
My earlier problems were rectified when I got the software properly downloaded It is time consuming and should be much easier. Service on line chat were very helpful but the direct talk 1-800 number produced the best results. I needed a new print head and hope these don’t clog up easily due to lack of use as they are $70 each. Mine was under warranty and delivered the next day which is remarkable..
I am getting fine quality prints.scans and copies. The ink does seem to go down rather fast and indicates replcement required when it shows about 1/5 full.
I HAVE USED LEXMARK, DELL, AND ARE CURRENTLY USING A CANON OVER THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS, I HAVE BEEN DEAD SET ON PURCHASING A KODAK HOWEVER SINCE READING A FEW COMMENTS (NEGATIVE) I AM MORE CONFUSED THAN EVER MY MAIN OBJECTIVE IS INK CARTRIDGES WITH LEXMARK AND CANON , IT HAS BEEN VERY VERY EXPENSIVE YET, I CANT GET MY MIND OFF OF KODAK SOMEBODY HELP ME I’M ON A FIXED INCOME
My experience since Christmas has been that the factory supplied ink cartridges are low in ink quantity. Subesquent cartridges have proven to last much much longer. I have been scanning old pictures and the quality is excellent. I am using it in a wireless network and it performs equally for three computers. I have been scanning at 300dpi and it takes a while compared to my previous Epson printer. I would imagine 600 dpi scans would test your patience.
If you want to sav e on ink- the Kodak ESP series is the way to go. Be prepared to fiddle a bit. Its worth it.
Just opened my ESP 7, and PAPAER JAM!!! They have to send me a new one. This is crazy. I am sure they re taking all these back and ‘refurbishing’ and putting them right back out there.
URGH!!!
*******FIXED******** PAPER JAM ISSUE!!!!!
I finally figured out the paper jam issue in the ESP series. I figured out there is a cleaning cartridge that comes out on the left side of where the printer cartridges are that blocks the path on certain occasions. It is a stupid qwerky issue that kodak has yet to find and repair but it is an easy fix. All you have to do is slide the cartridge holder to the right and if you reach in to the far left side of the print cartridge track that should just easily pop back into place if you push it in.
Please understand this is a very easy fix but is you are unsure of what i mean I do not recommend trying.
I am not responsible if you damage your printer in the process.
Thanks and Good LUCK!

Re: ESP 7 new printer. How to find in lcd window the choices of connection to computer ?
I am on my 5th replacement printer. I have been on hold with kodak for over an hour (this time) and no I am being told the printer was sent to the wrong address. I am so very disgusted with Kodak and would not recommend this printer to anyone. Received this as a Christmas present( Dec. 2008) and have been able to print out 3 good pictures. Wasted more ink trying to “fix’ the problem as per the techs. Finally got a supervisor who promised me on April 1, 2009 she would have a printer overnighted to her and she would test it before she shipped it out to me. Well on April 7 2009 I received a message on my landline phone from her saying the printer sent to her was not working correctly and she was having another one shipped overnight to her, she would check it and then she would overnight ship it to me. It is April 20, 2009 still no printer and when I called kodak today was told it was shipped to the wrong address. This is insane…..DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CHAD: Have had my ESP 7 since March 7 2009. Today it says paper jam.
Did all the usual steps.
I found “gunk” all along the cartridge track, and a tiny bit of paper 1/16″ sq stuck between the gunk, the cartridge track and the left and right underside of the cartridge case itself. Use a pointed knitting needle to guide a lint free cloth all along the track. All clean, including underside of cartridge case.
Still get PAPER JAM error after long shut down, unplugged.
Appears maybe the cleaning cartridge you mention had not been working.
Have gotten my little hands to the far left of the cartridge track, cannot locate where to “push in”…. any chance you can describe this again? thanx
I have had my Kodak ESP 7 for awhile and I get the paper jam issue every now and then, but now I am getting an error 6202 message and it won’t work at all. Please spare yourself and wait until Kodak gets their act together.
Has anyone tried the firmware updates available on Kodak’s website? I am looking at the ESP 9 and have noticed the firmware on there which I hope will solve the problems.
After only an hour of online research, I called the 800 #. About a 5 min wait. Told the guy in India I my ESP 7 was purchased March 9 2009. Told him I had cleaned it thoroughly, found gunk on the track, cleaned that, was able to easily get all wheels to move, but saw that one of 4 tiny white tabs had broken off (on the back, seen when duplexer is removed). I believe it is lost inside the printer. Based on that, he got the call moving, said a new one was being shipped, I was to return this one, postage prepaid.
It has a 1 yr warrenty. I was still using the intro cartridges that came with the unit!
Not very iimpressed with dullness of color, even tho I bought Kodak paper. I’m printing regular 8.5 x 11 stuff, often knitting patterns. I have a feeling this printer was designed for photographs.
I have to set the paper to the European A4 rather than to “letter” or it automatically makes a 1″ border all along every edge, sometimes cutting off the top of a pdf file.
Glad I bought a 2 yr warrenty for $24.99 at Best Buy.
They really do not have their act together. My HP lasted 6 yrs, but cost of ink was getting crazy, esp for color. Now I’m using a little HP for Black print only and will use the next Kodak for color…
I bought one yesterday & installed everything ok.
Apart from being the noisiest printer i have ever heard.
My problem is printing multiple documents using ms publisher & some accounting software, on my last 2 printers I could select to print as many copies as I needed, on this I have just sat nearly 2 hours printing 40 small documents 1 by 1, if I request more than 1 the printer just spews them out blank!
Live support were totally useless, last night 50 mins and he had only asked me 2 questions I gave up in the end.
Tried again today & he told me he had no knowledge of that problem & couldn`t help!
He finished by asking if there was anything else he could help with, I said you haven`t been any help !
Total crap if I don`t sort this soon then its going back to Comet !
Horrible printer with constant errors. Makes printing impossible, what a waste of money. I am so tired of PRINTER JAM!!! This makes me want to steer clear of anything kodak.
Bought an HP 1520 for my desk and a Brother 685 to replace the multi-functions of the Kodak. Brother is only days old with no problems yet, but it copies and scans well and seems easier to use. It has a full fax feature as well as a speaker phone and other additions over the Kodak that I may or may not use. The HP has already printed twice the pages of the Kodak with cartridges still good at 1.5 the cartridge cost and fits my desk well. It is small enough to carry with me, if needed. AGAIN, so much for the junk Kodak. I paid less for both of these together than for the Kodak. ANYTHING saying Kodak will henceforth make me turn away.
I resolved my paper jam by getting a replacement ESP-7. It installed and set up in no time. I tried printing in color and the resigstration was way off. Replaced the color cartridge and got superb pictures.
The phone line help desk were very prompt and I got my replacement in two days. Ther are some issues with its operation I find frustrating but it does produce quality scans and photos. If your colors are off it may be your color cartridge needs replacing.
Bought this printer b/c of the supposed savings on ink. The cartridges are skimpy – I’ve already replaced both black and color after very little use. Ink goes down much faster than my old HP.
Also, the paper jams all the time! How can I clear it without ripping it and compounding the problem.
I’m not a tekkie but don’t believe one should have to be to use a home printer!
Well, despite all of the comments on here and several reviews I purchased one of the ESP9 printers. The cartridges have been readily available from various stores and the photo paper value packs (which come with a colour cartridge) are a bargain! I have had the odd paperjam but found that generally I have been responsible by being generous with paper in the paper tray or pushing the paper too far into the printer. I have used the cartridges supplied with the printer but purely because I tested every aspect of it – the second ones are lasting… and lasting.. but considering how cheap they are – it would take 3 of these black cartridges to equate to the cost of one HP one.
Photo print quality is superb across the range of Kodak papers, I found the printer very easy to setup and hooked it onto the home wireless network with ease. I would highly recommend these printers and with Kodak’s continued firmware and software updates I am satisfied that any potential bugs are likely to be fixed.
I purchased two ESP-7 printers based on ink cost savings about 40 days ago and have to say at the outset that normal text printing and scanning is OK. These are noisy printers and nothing special for speed considering the price. I have yet to get a good photo print from either printer even with new cartridges and Kodak Premium paper. All photo prints are covered with 1/4″ horizontal bands which are on tone but different in depth of shade. Kodak has replaced the printheads on both with no improvement except an occasional print with fewer or smaller bands which tech support cannot explain. One printer was so bad that it was replaced with an obvious referb. The replacement printer had similar streaks on all photos and regular 8.5×11 paper began jamming so frequently that I reinstalled my old, worn but useable Epson C880 (never had a problem with the print head). Kodak tech support had me upgrade the printer’s firmware and unbelievably the paper jams stopped! However, both printers still will not print acceptable photos. If anyone has been successful returning printers to Kodak, please advise the rest of us. I’m planning to request the return of both…enough is enough.
Note: The savings on ink and the highly touted nonexistent “Lab Quality Prints” cannot offset the wasted time and the loss of confidence I and others have experienced with Kodak printers.
If Kodak is listening, please email us and discuss our options.
my prob;em is the same as (Stephen Guy June 17, 2009 at 2:35 pm). is there a file to downgrade back to the original firmware? the problem im having also is that i bought this 6 months ago, and haven’t had a problem until i upgraded the firmware last month, but didn’t use the printer until today–i even cleaned the head with a soft cloth–tech support couldn’t tell me what was wrong.
i wish i had read all of this before i bought it 6 months ago.
I upgraded the firmware when I received a replacement printer and a couple of times have had to clean the heads( maintenance menu). I find the printhead doesn’t like old paper and the black density is next to nil. Placing fresh paper in it does the job much better. But , hey my old Epson printer calnks away and copies come out perfectly black.
After receiving a replacement printer I’ve had very few problems but I sure don’t want to check for software upgrades. These printers much have shortened Kodak’s learning curve on new technology.
I have a Kodak ESP 7. It drives me crazy. It jams incessantly. It is noisy as hell. Consider yourself lucky if you can print more than one photo before experiencing a jam. As soon as the color cartridge gets low (not empty) expect additional grief. The WiFi connection was sporadic; so I connected it via ethernet. Frequently, my computer still cannot detect the printer. If you haven’t tried connecting with a USB cable, try it. You’ll be encouraged to do a firmware upgrade. The upgrade doesn’t seem to have done me any good. The cartridges do not last very long, but they are comparatively inexpensive. Paper handling is terrible: I’m always trying to insert the optimal number of sheets in order to avoid jams. It does, however, make copies from scans quite well. I suppose that I could call and complain, but as many of the commentators mention you’ll end up with another ESP with similar deficiencies. Kodak needs to get its act together. They encouraged their customers to buy their product with the promise to not rip us off for ink. Now we need somthing that uses the ink effectively by printing consistently well.
Following my June 17 post, Kodak support was notified of the continuing streaked photo problems on my 2 new ESP-7 printers and once again they insisted on sending new printheads for both printers. That’s 3 new printheads for one which includes a replacement (referb) printer and 2 new printheads for the other printer. At $70 per printhead plus shipping and the extended telephone support time, all gratis to date, Kodak must be questioning their wisdom in shortcutting the engineering needed to produce a reliable printer. However, we are the ones paying the price of having made a truly bad purchase decision since most of us cannot simply purchase additional printers until Kodak decides to take these printers back. Please pardon the rant but Kodak should do the right thing or I feel the negative comments on the internet will hurt sales. Cheaper ink plus a seriously flawed printer design does not produce satisfied customers.
Has anyone had any luck getting a refund from Kodak for the ESP 7 POS printer ?
by pushing the cleaning head as noted above i was able to resolve the paper jam issue!!! HURRRRAYYYY!!!!

i have had terrible results fromn the kodak esp 7 . doesn’t want to rint without lines. whats worse i returned it and the second one did the same thing. now i am trying to remove the software. seems like my computer keeps freezing up ….waited 20 minutes and nothing. purchase a hp photosmart printer…i highly recommend this one
My partner and I purchased the “7″ about 3 months ago and have experienced a litany of niggling little issues. Paper jams, sucking ink like a dry camel at a water hole (thank God ink is affordable!) and now streaking colors when printing an 8×10 photo. Some attempts at B&W were ok, just ok. What is with the streaking? New color and B&W cartridges. Would I recommend this, unlikely. Kodak should stick to the photography world and leave the printing to a pro lab…
i bought an esp7 because of the cheap ink, what a mistake, when it works, not very often, it uses the ink up very fast. the print head gets very messy with excess ink and must be cleaned very often, the color is dull and the black is also dull. this printer is a piece of junk. kodak should be ashamed that they put these name on it. i was going too call tec support but after reading others problems with them i can see it would be a waste of time. i hope when i throw it in the trash it doesn’t give the garbage company any problems. i had an hp before this one looks like i will be going back too hp. thanks for wasting my time and money kodak, goodbye forever.
CHAD YOU ARE A STAR… YOU SORTED THE PAPER JAM ISSUE OUT FOR ME ON MY ESP 7 WHICH HAS SAVED ME A LOT OF BOTHER WITH PHONE CALLS AND TAKING THE THING BACK.
THANK YOU.
Chad’s a genius! He has solved those insane paper jam claims where there’s no paper to be found despite the printer’s groaning, “I’m jammed! I’m jammed! Again! I’m JAMMED!” Thank you, Chad. I look forward to your solutions regarding the next round of problems my ESP 7 will have. I wish I had had “ESP” when I bought the darn thing!
New problem with my ESP-7. I have to clean the print head about every second day to get a normal black and white letter printed. Is the ink that volatile?
Also when scanning, it will complete one scan in a very long time, maybe five minutes but when I go to rescan another letter or photo it tells me the printer /scanner is disconnected. More than a little frustrated.
I’m sick to my stomach after reading these comments. Bought an ESP9 from Sam’s Club in November 08. Worked for about a week and completely died. Thought I had picked up a bad unit and returned it to Sam’s for another one. Second one worked for about three months without problem. Now, I can’t a decent printout or photo without color fades, and sometimes the print color is so faded, you can’t read it. I’ve cleaned the printhead, changed cartidges, realigned print nozzle, basically everything that troubleshooting suggested to no avail. Now I’m being instructed to get a new printhead. It’s still under factory warranty, but am I to understand from these posts that the problems will be ongoing?
Purchaed a ESP 7 3 days ago. USB worked. But many calls to Tech Support they could not get wireless working. Had SISD and WEP Key in Printer. Router set to Wireless B and G. My 2 other wireless printers working fine as are wireless PCs. Under Kodak Printer Ports only Printer Port for Kodak is USB. I added a TCP IP Port and assigned it to the Kidak and the wireless worked for 2 days. Then overnight while everything was turned off, the printer including the user manual deleted itself. I reinstalled and uninstalled everything a couple of times. Same results. USB works if cable is plugged in, but wireless printing simply says PC can not find printer, plug in the USB cable. I removed USB Port. Same error message. Am going to try Vista Add A Wireless Printer later. More calls to Kodak, they refused to transfer me to tech supervisor. I wanted to know when the wireless printing is working, what is showing in the Kodak Printer Properties Ports Box. So I can add a port for the wireless printing. Did not try Network Cable Yet, Since the Router is on a different floor from the printer. Thanks for any ideas. No help on Kodaks Web Site.
My ESP 7 keeps showing that I’m out of paper and won’t let me print, I’m not out of paper abd yet it keeps saying I am!!
Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
TIA
Mike:
You might try removing all the paper. Turning off the printer and replacing the paper. Sometimes there seems to be no apparent technical reason why these printers act the way they do. When they work, they are great – the other times they are extremely time consuming and frustrating
WOW it’s cool, good idea are you, l like good job.
Chad your a genius, just got my ESP-7 with paper jam, saw all the comments about sending printers back several times, panic, panic then saw your solution. all sorted and printer working great, Thanks Mate
regards Shaun
Changed the cartrages on my esp 7 and now it says that I have to change the ink cartrages…Arrgh! they are brand new..
??????
Chad’s Post of April 18, 2009 is correct way to fix it. If you look to the far left corner of the print track, there is a little black square that comes loose, if you push it down far enough it will “lock” into place. It definitely cleared the paper jam error and got me back up and running. Chad, you are a genius!!
I can’t install my printer. I tried with the disc about 6 times and about 6 times from the kodak web site any suggestions??? I tried everything I could think of. I made sure it was all uninstalled before trying to re install. I even turned all services but microsoft to try it. I turned off my fire wall and anti virus.. nothing seems to work… HELP!!!!!
Oh yeah and by the way I tried their tech support too LOLOLOLOLO!!!
I was so impressed AT FIRST when I saw the quality of the photos (4×6) that the ESP7 gave me even though I felt the ink cartridges did empty quite quickly compared to my HP. I have printed about a dozen, maybe less. Now the photos come out mostly pink-ish tones. Replaced both black and color cartridges even though they weren’t altogether empty at the time, did all the realignment stuff and cleaning the heads, etc. etc. etc. etc. and although it will give me copies and will print fairly well most documents (black ink could be darker), nothing I do tweaks out the issue of the color quality of the photos…..and yes, I’m using Kodak paper. I THOUGHT I had read enough reviews on this and balanced out the good vs the not-so-good and THOUGHT the cost of the ink was definitely worth getting one. Now I wish I had just spent the money on more ink for my HP. Heck, I hated Epson printers for so long that I switched to HP and now I think I’d rather have an Epson than this good-for-little-or-nothing Kodak. I’m with the person who said Kodak should stick with cameras. Now I’m not so sure I’d even buy a camera with that name on it. I might have to put this almost-new printer in the free box of my next yard sale with a disclaimer on it. Either that or move right after the yard sale and leave no forwarding address for the benefit of the person who would take it home and think they were getting a steal-of-a-deal by getting an almost new printer free. **sigh** I was sooooooo excited about the photo quality and showed everyone and bragged it up. Sure hope nobody took my advice.
I was told to upgrade the firmware and after running for 24 hours figured it was never going to do anything more (and I had to take the MBP) so I cancelled it and am now left with a bricked ESP7. Before I torture myself with Kodak tech support (”Try restarting it”), does anyone know how to revive a firmware dead EDP7? Hold down the OK and Menu buttons while reciting the Lord’s Prayer backwards? Drop it from the 3rd floor?
Thanks
@vdubreeze – are you using a Mac or a PC?
Here we are at the end of September and still no resolution on my two ESP 7 Kodak printers inability to print even remotely acceptable prints. I am the proud owner of a growing pile of printheads which seems to be the only solution tech support has to offer other than firmware upgrades. I think the effort is intended to wear us down and it’s working. After many cartridge replacements I’ve come to the conclusion that the printers are functional as basic text printers and scanner/copiers. I could have purchased better printers for these functions as far less cost. These printers are noisy, slow (unless in the extremely noisy draft mode), subject to paper jams if too much or too little paper is in the tray and poorly designed in many ways. The bottom line is “this printer is never to be recommended to anyone”. Other than tech service I have been unsuccessful in contacting anyone with Kodak who can help with the problems we’ve all listed here. My next printer purchase will be anything but Kodak.
Thanks to all
A few weeks ago a lightning strike at my house destroyed the ethernet connection on the esp7. I’m relieved that the house didn’t start on fire, but I’m even happier that I’m one step closer to throwing this printer in the trash.
I bought a ESP7 for my wife in June and we really loved it at first. It printed beautiful 4×6s, it was wireless and it came with a free wireless router. We had to replace it within the first week, I think it was the print head. My wife had tried the chat tech, the tech said “Hi”, she asked her question and the tech never responded. It jams way too often, printing anything has now become a time my wife dreads. To anyone thinking that they want to buy this printer. PLEASE PLEASE DON’T BUY. It is not worth the trouble. But at least I got a free DLink router out of the deal.
Well, I also would not recommend this printer to anyone. My printer stopped printing in black. I bought a new cartridge and it printed 2 pages in black and then the black was gone again. I called Kodak and they sent me a a new print head. The new printhead seemed to work fine, but now I get the paper jam issue. It won’t clear no matter what I do. I Call Kodak again, this time they say they will send me a replacement. I wait a week for the printer to get here. I am excited when it arrives. I take it out of the box and it is not in nearly as good shape as the one I will be sending back, but I can deal with that if it works. I plug it in and it is not commiunicating with the computer. I end up having to uninstall and reinstall the software, firmware. OK now the printer is communicating and all is well…………..not so fast. I print a test page and the printing is really awful. Half the text is missing. So I try again and it says the top tray is jammed. I haven’t even used the top tray. I pull in out and back in now that message stops and I get an error message. After turning off and back on many times, and getting numerous error messages, I realize this printer is not going to work. I call Kodak again and they ask me to turn the printer off and wait 30 seconds and turn it back on. I told her that I have done this numerous times, but I will humor her and do it one more time. Still shows the same error.
Now they promise me that they will overnight me a brand new printer. I am writting this as I sit here waiting for the printer to arrive. I would like to be able to say I am excited to get a new one, but, I am not that excited about it. I only hope that it works for awhile. I will definately be investing in a new printer if this on fails. If I hadn’t paid so much for it I would just throw it on the trash !!!!!!!
I wish I had read these postings prior to purchasing my ESP 9 eariler this year. I have been plauged with the imfamous “Paper Jam” that thanks to Chad’s posting I was able to get past. I still have software issues and my computer / network does not recognize the printer more times than it does know that it is there. I completely wore out a Lexmark Z-51 and never had any issues with it until the very end, hence why I replaced it. I purchased the Kodak on the notion of saving money on ink but my sanity is worth more. I don’t have the time or the patience for unreliable crap. Based on the above postings I am not going to waste my time with calling Kodak and requesting another printer. No, this one is going in the electronics scrap heap and will be written off as a lesson learned. There is no such thing as a high quality all in one machine with inexpensive ink…
I am extremely disappointed with this machine and highly recommend anyone considering purchasing one to stop considering it and purchase a machine with a proven track record of realibility like HP, Lexmark, or a host of others.
Seems as if one problem is solved and another appears. My ESP-7
(replacement one) has been working for the past month. Tonight I went to print an email and got it in three parts on photographic paper 4×6 when I had expressly selected plain paper and 8.5×11. I thought “Apply” meant the selected parameters were stored until changed.
I think most prople would relegate this to the junk box if they hadn’t paid so much for it. There sure are terrific ink savings which is one reason I bought it but I guess you can ripped one way or the other. What was that P.T.Barnum said …?
Chad’s fix works!

This is accurate. For anyone having the problem locating this, allow me to elaborate. The print head tray is on a track. Make sure the print head tray is all the way to the right. With those on the right, follow the track all the way to the left side of the printer. You will see a black square with a clip sticking out of it. The black square has a sponge on it for the head cleaning. This object must be pushed back into place. You will hear it click. This should solve the issue.
I’m so disappointed with this printer. I should have had my head examined when I bought it. I had a nasty feeling it was going to be the worst purchase I’ve ever made and sure enough it has been.
Let me put the record straight the esp 7 all in one printer is the best printer i have ever had the pleaure of using ,in two days i have printed 500 or more perfect pages ,at least 50 6×4 prints all that good that you would have thought they had been done by a pro , i have put photos on A4 sized photo paper and been amazed at the quality ,i have left the printer on its own with 100 pages to print for a manual ,come back a short while latter ,and it has compleated the task perfectly, the wifi is faultless ,not one jam in sight ,,i cant find one thing it cant do to perfection , i find it hard to believe all the bad comments ,and no i dont work for kodak,i put all the updates in and firmware ,and ran the configuration and maintance tests or set ups ,and wow outstanding brilliant perfect ,beautiful work horse i have ever seen ,i am going to buy another ,this is a totaly honest comment ,all i ask is before you complain about this beauty, make sure the faults are not down to human erorr, very best wishes Brian
Cheers Brian but, I`m sure your day will come……soon !
Hi Ricky B , love the comment, and sorry i did not mean to gloat,i must be lucky, but i have just started another 140 page print out with duplex and she is off to a sprint ,the ink situation after 500 pages is above 50% left ,plus this is another 140 pages ,i have quite a lot of A4 photos i want to do and will do them in a short while ,i took a load of pics in to work today and my friends were amazed at the outstanding quality,it leaves my old canon standing ,i hope everyone above on this page can quickly get sorted, because this is too good to miss,if you are in the stoke on trent area, you are welcome to see this baby move ,and good she is ,,i cover her up at night ,so no dust can get on her,and Ricky B my day may come ,lol and if it does i will let you know ,and if it does not ,i will be sure to let you know lol ,take a bow to the king of printers , the esp 7 all in one ,long live kodak, best wishes Brian
There’s no possible way you can get 500 pages from an ESP 7 cartridge. You can fool some of the people some of the time but not all of us. I don’t buy it at all.
Then i think you should come and have a look Ralph ,you are welcome ,but i promise you i had 250 pages of duplex, which gave me 500 sides ,granted not all the sides were crammed full of print ,and some of the pages came from the color cartridge ,but that still is what i got , and i stand by what i say ,im sorry you have had the problems, you have had ,but i fool you not ,this printer is outstanding ,i set it up exactly as kodak said, i have read the reports of ink not lasting ,again i am sorry ,but this for me is not the case ,and believe me if there were a problem i would be the first to complain, best wishes Brian
Heres a little more to the esp 7 story ,i actualy had a canon printer which started to let me down ,so i went out and bought the esp 3 all in one printer ,only because my brother had the esp 5 all in one printer, which he swore bye,and convinced me it was awesome,so off i went and returned with the esp 3,and my brother was right ,it was outstanding ,brilliant on ink ,and more than i had hoped for ,but after a while i realised i had made a mistake, because it was that good,i wanted another one,and as my brother had the esp 5 i thought i would go one better and buy the esp 7 and i did ,and again outstanding ,was the only word to describe this beautiful printer , funny because i am sure my brother is going to buy the esp 9 now, again i am sorry for any problems the above have had ,but my brother and myself have had outstanding results, and this is my honest opinion ,and again anyone in my location can take a look, best wishes Brian
CHAD, you just solved my paper jam problem – You should get an award from Kodak for saving them, and their customers, so much time and expense…. Best regards – Patrice
I tried to download the new Kodak software for the ESP -7 and in fact tried it three times with the result it wiped out my current software and said the software download was unsuccessful. So that clinches it. Its going to be replaced. I wasted three hours doing this.
Wow,
So many negative reviews!
Personally, I downloaded the latest software for XP Pro (SP3) from Kodak’s web site.
The software installed new drivers and a firmware update to the printer.
I have printed out 3x colour photos that I think are excellent quality. I used to work in reprographics as a person that had to scan high quality images from slide transparencies and photographs. I think that this printer produces beautiful quality when matched with the correct paper.
Printing on standard 90gsm paper is not that bad either, for example, the “A Charming Font” is a font that’s tiny at 12 point, yet perfectly legible when printed.
Printing out a ~50 page PDF with lots of screen shots seemed to use up the ink a lot, but no more so than the HP 990cxi I had before.
I purchased a new printer because I don’t think that a couple of inkjet cartridges should cost me over £75!
I think that the majority of the post on this site have come from stooges operated by other manufactures that are upset that someone else has broken their ability to charge more than the worth of gold for the same amount of ink.
Brian:
I wish you well with your ESP-7. My computer now won’t talk to me although it will copy and scan manually.
I would be curious if anyone has been able to download the software update. Be aware that it almost wipes out the current version loaded. I say almost because at the end of the 280mB download it gives an error message and going to the Kodak website says some program remnants failed to erase and to “reload the program”. Many that is disappointing in a printer (replacement ) not 9 months old.
Hi Ralph i cant understand whats happening with your printer ,if you read what shadders wrote above ,you must see that both of us have had brilliant results and outstanding performance,i too updated from kodaks web site and had no such problem ,i hate to see folk having problems, but i stand by what i said about this printer, and have used nothing better ,i see shadders also wrote ,I think that the majority of the post on this site have come from stooges operated by other manufactures that are upset that someone else has broken their ability to charge more than the worth of gold for the same amount of ink,and i am begining to wonder,as mine and my brothers esp 9 are still going strong ,i wish i could help you out but i would not know where to start with your problems ,best wishes Brian
Ralph & Brian
I suspect you`re the same person & probably do work for Kodak.
Why would any of these people be bothered to post unless they had a genuine reason to vent their disapointment about an expensive piece of junk!
Either way you both talk crap & I`m no stooge & i`m sure the rest aren`t either!
Hey Ricky B i can assure you we are not the same person ,and i write to give a honest opinion of what i thought of the esp 7 all in one printer ,you may not agree with what i say ,you seem to get upset when i state the facts ,but i tell it as it is ,mine is brilliant ,and has worked without problem from day one ,what i do find strange is Ralph and i have compleatly different opinions of this printer ,so which one of us is talking crap? ,best wishes Brian
Apologies to Ralph, It should have read Shadders & Brian.
Over the years I’ve had at least 6 different printers. The Kodak ESP 9 is without a doubt the worst printer I’ve ever owned. The cartridges don’t last and the pictures come out green. This printer wouldn’t be worth having even if it were given free with the purchase of a new computer…that’s probably why the computer company’s don’t offer them…this will be the last time I purchase anything from the Kodak company.
update on esp 7and esp 9 all in one , wow Bob L another one ,that does not work ?,may be me and my Brother are the only ones in the whole world who have a esp 7 and a esp 9 that actualy work ,i have done loads and loads of printing, and scanning ,and my photos are outstanding ,the printing is perfectly clear ,the ink has hardly moved and i have printed A4 photos ,the colours are beautiful, infact you could do all your wedding photos on this baby ,,also i have just stocked up with kodak photo paper 60 sheets of 6×4 inch £2.99 20 sheets of best photo paper £2.99 and the beat goes on ,any one out there who thinks i work for kodak are welcome to come and have a look at this baby in action ,poetry in motion ,every egg a bird, best wishes Brian
I just upgraded one of my computers to windows 7 and was unable to print to the ESP 7. Once again I had to troubleshoot without much help from Kodak. They don’t list any windows 7 compatible software for their printers. However, I found a forum where others were having similar problems with their printers, and discovered that the Vista software available on the Kodak website solved the problem. I have a new printer (still in the box) ready to be set up. It isn’t a Kodak. I’m just waiting for my Kodak ink to run out.
wow and yet another ,i also upgraded to windows 7 and i was using the printer within 10 mins of installing it ,my opinion has not changed ,this printer is brilliant ,but windows 7 is crap ,infact i ought to buy all the printers that dont work ,and sell them again in working order,i would make a fortune, and have nothing to do best wishes Brian
One important note about the ink use, which is quite dumb because it’s the reason for the bad press about how much it uses, I believe: the cartridges the ESPs ship with are called “introductory” cartridges, and don’t hold as much ink as regular refill cartridges. I can vouch that the first set didn’t last long but subsequent ones last much longer than any consumer all in one Epson or Canon I’ve had by far.
OTOH, the paper jams and mediocre scan quality are real issues. My first one failed a firmware update (OSX) which left it bricked, and the replacement gives the dreaded “Rear Access Door Open” no matter what so I’m no fan : ) : (
Kodak is about to get another one swapped back. Anyone successfully cured this false error?
Hi its me again ,hi vdubreeze after reading all the problems folk are having, the only thing i can see that makes a difference between mine being brilliant and yours not so hot ,is i updated and installed the software with no problems ,this was 4 weeks ago,and i have printed, scanned and done loads of photos ,and the qaulity was outstanding ,not just good, but excellent ,and it would not be possible to find fault with what the esp 7 has produced ,i have tested it against my friends canon ,and asked people to pick the best photos ,the esp 7 was light years ahead ,there was no contest ,and i think canon are very good ,i may never buy anything again that has been such value for money ,best wishes Brian
I had a problem when updating the firmware on my esp 7 all in one, halfway through the update the window just closed, and the printer was left without being fully updated, the printer has been saying that is updating and telling me to not discounnect the cable?? Is there anyway to restart the firmware update?
Hi Nick which o/s are you using ,i would be of help to see what the folk with problems are using,as mine is still brilliant ,and no problems at all, which is the same for my brother ,who has a esp 9 and says it is awesome, best wishes Brian
Good job Bret that worked

by pushing the cleaning head as noted above i was able to resolve the paper jam issue!!! HURRRRAYYYY!!!!

Print head knackered again !
Another on its way, this will be my third since i bought the damn thing in May !
Chad’s fix works – just to clarify a bit further – if you see the cleaning pad, don’t spend 2 hours trying to push it DOWN, just slide it back (towards the rear of the printer) and it will work fine! This was on my ESP-9 which I have been very happy with – until now!

I solved all the foregoing problems with my ESP-7 after one year of frustration at downloading updates ( extremely slow), paper jams, print head replacement , mcahine replacement , ad nauseam.
I dumped my printer and bought one that works. I would have thought better of Kodak from their reputation.
HI Brian,
sorry for delay in repsonse, all the emails notifications got pushed to my spam folder!!
I have since managed to resolve the issue by…..wait for it……switching it off and on again, i did have to leave it over night before it would do this so not sure what happened, but all resolved now.
It was windows XP by the way.
Thank you for reply.
Nick
Hi Nick i am so pleased you have sorted your problem out , was just interested if there was some thing in common causing this problem ,but alls ok ,take care my friend .best wishes Brian
Hi everyone just a short update on my esp 7 all in one printer ,it still remains the best printer i have ever bought, maybe i have been lucky ,but it really is superb, brilliant photos , excellent scanner ,the wireless part is faultless ,i have never in my life covered my printers up ,but this one is covered every night and day if i dont use it ,thats how good it is ,i treat it like a lady ,its that good ,i hope any problems you have had with yours are quickly sorted ,ps the ink situation is amazing, cheap and i have not replaced mine yet, increadable ,very best wishes Brian
Brian,
It`s quite obvious you either work for or sell kodak printers, why else would you waste your time telling us how good it is.
I too have had no issues with my Kodak printer, I’ve gotta say unlike Brian – I don’t cover mine up, nor treat it like a lady! Treat ‘em mean – keep ‘em keen!
I also get exceptional quality photographs from it along with faultless scanning etc.
However, I won’t be posting every other day to tell you all about it.
I couldn’t agree more with Ricky. I knew that guy was waffling us because theree’s no way that printer could print 500 sheets and still have half a cartridge left.
I solved my year long frustration and dumped the ESP-7 and bought a different brand. Kodak were well intentioned when they introduced the ESP series; unfortunately, what happened is a result of outsourcing. The standards in the Far East for many consumer items are way below what I would expect in North America. Some day the manufacturers will get their act together and make such products here. Maybe get Brian on the design or marketing team.
Thats a good idea Ralph, lol desigh or marketing team ,and as for waffling ,i will say again this is one hell of a printer ,,and Kevin i have been on here a lot ,but i would not like anyone thinking we are talking about a very bad printer , because this is far from the truth ,i stated that the ink usage was increadable ,and indeed it is ,and i have printed many many things ,and she still keeps right on going ,now you may not agree with what i say ,and you have a right to your own opinion, but the proof is in the pudding, and anyone is welcome to see this beautiful machine in action ,thats a invitation, thats how utterly brilliant i think the esp 7 is ,my very best wishes Brian
Brian; I have also been here ALOT – my initial post was back in April and have read all the posts since, however, I do not think that spamming the thread with posts about how good something is will change the fact that people are reporting issues with the printer. Issues that, for them at least, are not being resolved.
I have the ESP9 and I am very happy with it, it prints wonderfully and scans wonderfully and does what I would expect of a printer BUT having two people with success stories does not detract from those having problems.
The reported problems should be resolved by Kodak – for the benefit of everyone: a) to resolve those issues that people are experiencing b) to improve an already good product like you and myself have but until they are resolved this thread is going to constantly receive new posts from unsatisfied owners and until that happens – the postive posts are going to be out numbered by the negative posts! partciularly as the positive posts are made by a single person whereas the negatives are being made by many different people….
Hi Kevin you are quite right , firstly let me say i have nothing to do with Kodak ,apart from buying the esp 7, and as for the many replys i have made ,they are only to update the progress of the printer and indeed if it had gone wrong i would have been on here and held my hand up ,and said so ,also i was hoping there would be a connection with so many people having problems ,to why this was happening , i dont concider writing here as a waste of time ,my brother has the esp 9 and his is brilliant,no problems at all ,his girlfriend has one of the lesser esp printers ,there again no problems , the Argos folk all commented on this machine and they speak highly of it ,but you are right i cant keep commenting on the esp printers ,time will tell ,nice talking with you very best wishes Brian
I have had all the fun of everyone with the paper jam, my new issue is trying to print and nothing shows up on the paper, tried everything.
When it runs a test page it prints, then I try to print a doc and nothing. I get a very very faint print. This is the second time I have had this issue. In the last 2 weeks I have gone through 2 black and 1 color cartridge.
ANY IDEA ON HOW TO FIX?
Theresa
It`s all the symptons of a faulty print head.
I also went down the same route, replacing ink that was only half full etc.
The test page appears to print ok but, it will be missing some colours or black, hence documents won`t print.
You need to call Kodak or if you have the patience log on to their web site for live tech support, where you will probably get very frustrated running through their tests but, they will log the fault & give you a phone number to call & request a new print head, this is free because they are guaranteed for the life of the printer ( I wonder why ! )
They are also easy to fit but, very annoying & frustrating having the problem & waiting 5 days for a new one.
I should know I have had 2 new ones in 7 months.
Let us know how you get on, good luck !
Ricky
Had to jump through all the hoops, tried to tell me if I bought another color cartridge I would be able to print. I tried to tell him that I have tried everything under the sun and it has nothing to do with the cartridge. Still on hold, they are going to send me a new print head. I will let you know what the outcome is. I never had this problem with my 100 dollar printer i had before, thats what I get for trying to save money on ink. My other printer lasted 4 years, not a problem, of course I could not print color pictures either.
