Lite-On has rolled out its latest external DVD writer called the eHAU324. Measuring 165mm x 58mm x 192mm and weighing 1.3kg, this portable drive boasts the SmartErase technology allowing users to erase write-once discs by overwriting the original data on the disc with random meaningless characters. This technology will guarantee that the original data can no longer be read by any drive. Apart from that, the drive also features a USB 2.0 connection interface and provides write speeds of up to 24x for DVD+R/-R, 12x for DVD-R/+R DL and DVD-RAM, 8x for DVD+RW, 6x for DVD-RW, 48x for CD-R and 32x for CD-RW. The eHAU324 will go on sale in Europe this month for 65 Euro (about $97). [CDRLabs]
