Nokia has developed Wibree, a new short-range wireless connection which is much smaller and 10 times more energy-efficient when compared against current Bluetooth technology. Nokia is hoping its new short-range wireless technology will become the industry standard for small device applications. Wibree can be integrated with various devices such as watches, intelligent jewelry, and clothing. This new wireless technology offers a radio link of up to 10 meters and operates within the 2.4GHz band. Nokia expects to release a commercial version of the standard in Q2 2007 followed by Wibree-enabled products shortly thereafter. Will Wibree replace the Bluetooth standard, or will consumers shy away from that standard as they already own plenty of Bluetooth-enabled products?
