The World Health Organization estimates that glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness worldwide. Glaucoma is a build-up of pressure in the eye. Some researchers at UC Davis have designed contact lenses that can measure pressure within the eye and provides a warning if there is something wrong. The smart contact lenses use an organic polymer called PDMS that functions as a simple pressure sensor. Good news is that UC Davis will start clinical trials of these smart contact lenses in humans very soon. [io9]
