Sony SMP-N100 is a joke. I bought it because it a Sony but after try it out for 20 minutes, I’m totally disappointed. I own a lot of external HDD and most of them are powered by the USB port; (the type that don’t use external power). Well this media player does not support the portable HDD that powered by USB port; what a joke. It’s bad enough that this device does not support internal HDD but also the external HDD must powered by external source. The UI, is also bad; slow to response when made selection and it not user friendly. If this was my first HDD player then I won’t know any better, but since I own a few like Iomega, Hornettek Showcase, VIV Player ( best Karaoke player for $300) and other brand, forget what is it, I would give Sony SMP-N100 a thumb down. Of all the media players ( rated for movie watching) my top choice would be Hornettek Showcase media player.
