Apple Releases New Apple TV For Just $99

Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs has recently unveiled a newly redesigned Apple TV that costs less than half of the price of its predecessor. Priced at just $99 each, the new Apple TV features a built-in power supply, HDMI, optical audio, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi. The new Apple TV also provides access to Netflix streaming, YouTube videos, and photos from Flickr. This gadget can also stream content from a Mac or PC, and from a MobileMe account. Apple TV Version 3.0.2

Apple has recently updated their Apple TV to version 3.0.2. This new update is related to the release of Aperture 3.0, which made changes to how that software shares images over the local network and adds support for iPhoto’s Places and Faces features. The new Apple TV Version 3.0.2 can be downloaded and installed from the Update Software option within the Settings/General menu on Apple TV. [Apple Insider]

Still waiting for Apple’s next Macbook coming Tuesday?  Well get this, Jason Calacanis, in an interview with CNET UK claims that a little birdie told him that Apple is working on a networked LCD HDTV with built-in Apple TV.  Why Apple would jump into the HDTV market is strangely mysterious, but what’s interesting is the promise of an HDTV natively capable of streaming music and videos from your network.  Still, a very stimulating rumor and another expensive gadget to add to your to-buy list.  [MacBlogz]

Good news for the customers who pre-ordered the Apple TV steaming media device. They began receiving shipment notifications earlier today. Most of them will receive their Apple TV by Friday. In case you didn’t know, the Apple TV was originally announced under the iTV codename in September 2006. It was officially introduced at Macworld Expo in January.
