Sony Introduces Paper-powered Bio Battery

Sony has recently introduced the paper-powered bio battery at Eco-Products 2011 in Tokyo. This eco-friendly battery uses a special enzyme called cellulase to change paper into glucose, which is needed to generate the electricity. The cellulase acts as a catalyst, so it can be reuse several times. The company claims that the paper-powered bio battery can generate up to 18Wh of electricity, which is equal to the amount of energy that can be generated by six AA batteries. Read more

Sanyo XX Batteries With Eneloop Technology

Sanyo today introduced the XX battery that adopts the eneloop technology. The battery is able to deliver 25% more power for extreme usage requirements. What makes the XX battery more interesting is that it can still deliver juice even when temperatures drop down to -4 degrees Fahrenheit. R Battery Concept By Wang Shuo

Wang Shuo has designed the R Battery concept that resurrects old batteries. The device comes in the form of a D-type battery and provides three slots to hold old AA and AAA batteries. These near dead batteries still hold one last charge in them, and the R Battery intends to use the remaining juice as one large cell. [Yanko]

Continuance Rechargeable Battery With A USB Interface

The Continuance is a set of batteries with a USB interface on the side. Designed by Haimo Bao, Hailong Piao, Yuancheng, the battery can be recharged via a USB connection. Designed by Wonchul Hwang, the AA USB is a combination of an AA battery and a USB flash drive. This gadget features a retractable USB port, allowing you to recharge the AA battery via a USB port on your computer or save your files on a built-in flash drive. Too bad, it is only a concept. [Yanko]

Sanyo is ready to release the limited edition 8-color glitter AA and AAA-size Eneloop rechargeable battery pack in Japan on November 14th, 2010. The 5th anniversary model of the Eneloop rechargeable battery comes in 8 glitter colors such as Purple, Pink, Orange, Yellow, Light Green, Light Blue, Silver and Black. This 8-color Eneloop pack has been made to be fun and convenient for users. Brother Industries has developed batteries, which recharges with vibration to reduce toxic waste created by discarded portable batteries. Made in AA and AAA sizes the battery uses an electromagnetic induction generator and an electric double layer capacitor with a capacitance of about 500mF to produce 10 to 180mW of power. Designer Mac Funamizu comes back with his latest creation in the form of the Hungry Batteries concept. These rechargeable batteries get slimmer and slimmer as they run out of juice. The thinner it is, the emptier the battery is. When the battery is full, it is just as straight as a normal battery. Too bad, there is no info on what kind of materials to be used for the casing. Sony Mercury-Free Mini Alkaline Battery

Here is good news for those who are concerned about environmental issues. Sony today introduced five new Mercury-Free (0%) Mini Alkaline batteries that will be launched in August 2010. These “green” batteries are specially designed for everyday applications, such as watches, calculators, toys and portable game consoles.
