Here is good news for those who are concerned about environmental issues. Sony today introduced five new Mercury-Free (0%) Mini Alkaline batteries that will be launched in August 2010. These “green” batteries are specially designed for everyday applications, such as watches, calculators, toys and portable game consoles. Sanyo’s latest Eneloop Tone batteries are now available in some bright colors that make these batteries more interesting. In case you didn’t know, the Sanyo Eneloop is a rechargeable battery that can be recharged about 1500 times. These eco-friendly batteries are also pre-charged at the factory using clean energy generated from renewable solar power. [Press Release]
Here is the new rechargeable battery from PowerGenix. The Quantaray Super Z is a Nickel-Zinc (NiZn) AA battery that is able to hold 30% more voltage compared to other rechargeable battery and is 100% non-toxic. Sadly, there is no word on pricing or availability. [Engadget]
