The Hyoutan is actually a kind of cucumber that many countries used for many usage: It can be eaten, as a sponge, but also as a gourd, guitar etc. Bird Electron today introduced its brand new Hyoukan Speaker double cone. The speaker comes with a mini adapter that allows you to connect it to your iPod, or other Digital Audio Player. The Hyoutan Speaker for iPod is priced at 18,500 Yen. Bird Electron releases a new set of speaker, which is build around Japanese Takotsubo, or “Octopus Trap”. It is used by fishermen in order to catch Octopus. The Takotsubo has a 50mm diameter speaker. No info on pricing or availability so far. [Akihabara]
