
RIM has confirmed that they will be offering the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet through selected US and Canada retailers starting at $199 for the holiday season. This offer will be available for a limited time. As a reminder, the BlackBerry PlayBook comes jam packed with a 7-inch (1024 x 600) capacitive touchscreen display, a 1GHz Texas Instruments dual-core processor, a 3.0-megapixel front-facing camera, a 5.0-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 1GB RAM and GPS navigation. Research In Motion (RIM) has decided to recall approximately 1000 16GB BlackBerry PlayBook tablets. These tablets were shipped with an OS build that may result in the devices being unable to properly load software upon initial set-up. Fortunately, the majority of these affected devices are still in the distribution channel and haven’t reached customers. Owners of these affected tablets can contact RIM for assistance. [Crackberry]

Sprint has confirmed the availability of the BlackBerry 4G PlayBook on their network. This tablet supports Sprint’s speedy 4G network. The BlackBerry 4G PlayBook features a new BlackBerry Tablet OS, a 1GHz dual-core processor, a 1GB of RAM, Wi-Fi, Adobe Flash Player 10.1, Adobe Mobile AIR and HTML5 support. BlackBerry has unveiled the Playbook tablet that features a 7-inch (1024×600) touch display, a dual-core processor, Adobe Flash 10.1 and a micro-USB connector. Word has it that RIM will introduce the new BlackPad tablet in November 2010. The gadget is powered by an operation system that is specifically developed by QNX Software Systems. QNX is a company acquired by RIM in April 2010 and specializes in communication systems for navigation of the car. Still remember the BlackBerry Tablet that we mentioned in May 2010? Ashok Kumar, an analyst and managing director at Rodman & Renshaw, speculates that this portable gadget will feature a 7-inch touchscreen display with a couple of cameras and a 1GHz processor from Marvell. One possible chip candidate is the Marvell 1GHz Armada 610 processor, which is aimed at tablets, mobile Internet devices, and e-readers. The largest US mobile carrier Verizon will release the BlackBerry Bold 9650 via online on June 3rd, 2010, which is tomorrow. The smartphone will be available via Verizon Wireless Communications Stores starting June 10th, 2010. A non-camera version will also be available on June 3th, 2010. The BlackBerry Bold 9650 is Verizon’s first global smartphone to support GlobalAccess Connect, so it can be used for tethering in more than 200 countries worldwide. GlobalAccess Connect plans are available for $65 monthly access for 5GB allowance in the United States and Canada ($0.05/MB overage) and 100MB allowance in select countries ($5.12/MB overage). There is also a $155 monthly access option that offers 5 GB allowance in the United States and Canada and 200MB allowance in select countries, with the same overage rates as the $65 monthly option.
In case you didn’t know, the BlackBerry Bold 9650 features a 480 x 360 pixels display, a full QWERTY keypad, an optical trackpad, Wi-Fi, Verizon Navigator 6, stereo Bluetooth, a 3.5mm headset jack, and a 3.2MP AutoFocus camera with LED flash. Word has it that Research In Motion is working on a tablet. Known as the BlackPad or Cobalt, the device is expected to get an 8.9-inch screen, with RIM reportedly ordering such displays from Hon Hai.
