Samsung today introduced a new external Blu-ray combo drive that features a sleek design with an anti-fingerprint surface. Dubbed as the SE-406A, this external Blu-ray drive comes bundled with a software which transforms 2D DVD movies into 3D. The Samsung SE-406A slim external 3D Blu-ray combo provides a variety of speeds across different data media types such as: 6X BD-R, 4X BD-R Dual Layer, 24X CD-ROM, 24X CD-RW, 8X DVD±R recording, 8X DVD-RAM recording, 6X DVD+R Dual Layer recording, 6X DVD-R Dual Layer recording, 8X DVD+RW recording and 6X DVD-RW recording. Sony Optiarc today released the BWU-500S internal Blu-ray disc (BD) rewritable drive, which can write BD-R media at up to 12X and dual layer BD-R media at up to 8X speeds, recording a full 25GB disc in about 10 minutes. The Sony BWU-500S comes bundled with a 25GB Sony BD-R blank disc and CyberLink’s Media Suite 8 software for capturing, authoring, editing, backing up, viewing high-definition personal content and playing back Blu-ray disc movies including 3D Blu-ray movies. The drive is also able to record standard 4.7GB DVD+/-R discs at up to 16X speeds, 8.5GB DVD+/-R Double/Dual layer at up to 8X, DVD+RW at up to 8X, DVD-RW at up to 6X, CD-R at up to 48X, CD-RW at up to 24X, and support DVD-RAM recording at up to 12X speeds. Featuring a SATA connection interface, the drive is capable of providing a variety of speeds across different data media types including 12x BD-ROM read, 8x BD R/RE/DL read, 48x CD-ROM, 40x CD-RW, 16x DVD+/-R recording, 12x DVD-RAM recording, 8x DVD+/-R Dual Layer recording, 8x DVD+RW recording and 6x DVD-RW recording. Samsung has just unveiled its first internal Blu-ray disc COMBO drive called the SH-B083. The drive features a 2MB buffer memory, a SATA connection interface and provides 8x read speeds for BD-R and BD-ROMs, 16x for DVDs and 40x for CDs. The drive also boasts an average access speed of 350ms thanks to its fast dual layer jumping algorithm, which is much faster than any other drive on the market today.
