
If you think that the current Blu-ray disc is the best then you might be out of date because Pionner has unveiled its 16-layer optical disc that is able to store a huge 400GB worth of data. The Pioneer disk is based on Blu-ray Disc (BD) with a breakthrough in material of reflective layers. The specifications of the pick-up head (PUH) of the disc is the same as those for the PUH of blank BD discs, so the Pioneer discs can be read on BD players that are in the market. Pioneer will release its read-only (ROM) 400GB discs in 2008 to 2010, meanwhile rewritable 400GB discs will make a debut in 2010 to 2012 and the 1TB capacity disc in 2013. [Digitimes]

The company has announced its DVD-3800BD Blu-ray player that utilities the 10-bit Silicon Optix sxT2 HQV Realta chipset to obtain the highest resolution HD video via an HDMI 1.3a connection with 36-bit deep color support. Sharp today rolled out AQUOS DX series, which is known as the first LCD TVs with built-in Blu Ray Disc Recorders in the world. The series consists of 16 new models from 26-Inch to 52-Inch screen sizes. All models are compatible with BD-RE V2.1 (Single / Dual layer), BD-R 1.1 (Single / Dual Layer) recordable disc, and most of available playable disc. Integra wants to enter the Blu-ray player market with its latest DBS-6.9 Blu-ray player. Pioneer today introduced the next generation Blu-Ray disc that provides 400GB of storage capacity. It means that the disc can store sixteen 25GB Blu-Ray discs in one package. Pioneer also announced that this kind of Blu-Ray disc could effectively reduce the optical disc production and save resources. Mitsubishi has unveiled a two parts wireless HDTV system. The system will comprise of a very thin LCD screen (approx.1.5 inch), and then a separate Blu-ray optical drive box that also sends out the wireless signals to the TV. The Mitsubishi HDTV will incorporate AMIMON’s wireless technology, capable of delivering uncompressed HD video streams wirelessly. The wireless HDTV will enable flexible placement of HD source devices such as AVRs, DVRs, DVD players, set-top boxes (STBs) and game consoles anywhere within the room and throughout the home.
