Japanese stationery maker Kokuyo has introduced a new calculator that looks like a TV remote control. Known as the Kokuyo X-VIZ, this unique calculator measures 32mm x 162mm x 12mm. The company will launch the X-VIZ in the Japanese market on May 11, 2011 for $64 a pop. [Product Page]
Casio Education has recently launched the PRIZM Graphing Calculator, which is touted to transform how technology is used in the classroom. The PRIZM is the first in Casio’s next-generation line of graphing calculators with its high-resolution 3.7-inch color LCD display, along with various functions designed to assist with math lessons. The PRIZM comes with high-resolution fonts up to 18×24 dots (including blank dots), to enable equations and text to be displayed just like they appear in textbooks. The Blanview LCD delivers superior visibility and low power consumption, enabling color display with an estimated run time of 140 hours on four AAA-size alkaline batteries. What makes the PRIZM special is that it is already approved for use on the ACT, PSAT, SAT, and AP exams. The Casio PRIZM Graphing Calculator will be available from January 2011 for $129.99 each. This 3-in-1 personal calculator can also act as a wireless laser mouse and a numeric keypad for personal computers. Designed for work or personal use, the new model combines the trademark X series design with multiple functions and strong environmental credentials, having been part-manufactured using recycled Canon materials. I can say there is nothing special about these new calculator from Sharp except its simple design. Sharp’s new EL-N802 12 digit calculator is currently available in white, black, and red. No info on pricing so far. [Akihabara]
