Norwegian auto designer and manufacturer, TH!NK, used the occasion of the Geneva Motor Show 2008 to show off their new vehicle platform concept, the TH!NK Ox, a plug-in electric urban commuter that boasts advanced telematics, a range of over 100 miles and is 95% recyclable. The TH!NK Ox is a modular platform concept approaching the size of an SUV that’s been designed for the European, North American and Asian markets. The Ox is a five-seat mono cab design that has a space frame structure that can be used for a variety of different body styles. The base model will have a 60kW electrical power train achieving 0-100kmh in less than 8.5 seconds and reaching a top speed of 130km/hr. [TH!NK] More

Now Renault has a new variation and perhaps a new landmark car, its Mégane Coupé Concept car released in Geneva Motor Show last night with twin, two-part “dragonfly wing†doors. The awesome design will form the basis of an upcoming model. The dragonfly wing doors open to reveal a futuristic, sleek, and stylish interior with four independent seats, sorry dudes… no back seat to take your date. Mégane Coupé Concept is powered by a 200hp, two-litre turbocharged petrol engine which delivers maximum torque of 280Nm at 2,600rpm and peak power of 200hp at 5,800rpm. Attached to a manual six-speed gearbox, the turbo lets Mégane Coupé Concept go from zero to 62 mph in just 7.2 seconds, yet it returns economical fuel consumption of just 6.5 litres/100km. Volkswagen showed a new concept car in Geneva Motor Show that uses both natural gas and petrol. That’s not new, but it’s the first time it has been combined with the VW TSI engine which uses both a supercharger and a turbocharger operating sequentially to provide high power (150 bhp), great economy, exceptional range and meet Euro 5 emission standards from a small capacity (1.4 liter) engine. With a top speed of 130 mph and the capability to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 9.7 seconds, the Passat Estate TSI EcoFuel remains viable for everyday use and in most driving conditions the vehicle consumes 5.2 kg of natural gas every 100 km. The vehicle will be introduced in mainland Europe in both saloon and estate bodystyles before the end of the year. [WorldCarFans]

Invented in France and licensed by Tata Motors in India, The Zero-Pollution MDI Air Car is coming to American shores in 2010. It features an ingenious compressed-air motor, which runs to 35mph entirely on air, or uses a trickle of petrol to heat and compress more air to reach higher speeds up to 90mph, and capable of 90mph or 1000 miles to a tank. It also comes in 6-seater, 4-door, and 75 horse power. Available in retail price for under US$20,000. [ZeroPollution]

Mercedes-Benz claims the 2009-bound S400 BlueHybrid to be the world’s first production using Li-ion hybrid batteries. The lithium-ion alternatives are known to offer greater efficiency, as well as a better overall weight-to-power ratio, and are used in the all-electric Tesla roadster as well as in many plug-in hybrid conversions. The S400, unveiled at the 2007 Frankfurt auto show, will use a 3.5-liter V-6 engine complemented by the hybrid system. Mercedes-Benz claims 30 mpg for the S400 and a 0 to 62 mph time of 7.3 seconds with its 295 horsepower. No info on pricing at this stage. [HybridCars]

The Alfa Romeo 8C Spider is being rolled out in limited production with 500 units worldwide. The roadster features an 8 cylinder 4.7 liter engine that produces 450hp for a fun, speedy ride. It looks sweet and is guaranteed to turn some heads. You can roll this baby up to the nightclub to pick up on hot drunk chicks, but you’ll have to shell out a cool 200K to do it. [PeepCulture] More
