
Dubbed as the Hole Phone, this concept phone was designed by Chi Shing Lo, a student at the UK’s De Montfort University. The handset comes with a hole which doubles up as a view finder when used as a camera, a charging point which uses inductive charging technology, and also for transferring data. Yasmin Sethi has designed this modern chess set that “magically turn transparent” when they touch the board. Yasmin was inspired by the Lewis Carroll’s novel ‘Alice through the Looking Glass’. The board was made out of a glass material with embedded LEDs (LightPoints). No word yet on pricing or availability. [Gizmodo]

Here is the new concept car from Volkswagen. Weighing at 660-pounds, the car is powered by a 1-cylinder engine that managed to achieve a 282 miles per gallon in testing. What makes this car special is that it has the aircraft-style canopy door. Safety features are include the airbags, anti-lock brakes and stability control. [CAR]

Pascal Bardel has creatively designed the Gélule. It is a concept radio clock that shaped like a capsule. The clock features a backlit LCD display and an omni-directional speaker. A choice of several colors of cloth for the speaker is proposed, fitting with the color of the LCD display. You can also adjust the volume by rotation of the speaker. Available exclusively as a three-door hatchback, the car will be offered at launch with two petrol engines, a puny 78Hp 1.4-liter and a 155Hp turbocharged 1.4-liter and one turbodiesel, the 120Hp 1.6 JTDM. The use of sheet metal found on bodies of production vehicles has been replaced with a special, flexible, highly durable and extremely expansion-resistant fabric material that stretches across a metal structure.
