NEC has recently announced the availability of the P241W affordable widescreen LCD display. Targeted at professionals and designed to be used in color-critical environments, this 24-inch widescreen display utilizes an e-IPS panel, which gives it wide viewing angels with minimal off-angle color shift. It has a native resolution of 1920 x 1200, a 1000:1 typical contrast ratio, an 8ms response time, DisplayPort, VGA and two DVI-D inputs, a built-in USB hub for controlling two computers using one keyboard and mouse, Picture in Picture capabilities, Touch capabilities, ambient light sensors for automatically adjusting the display’s brightness, and is suitable for both Mac and Windows computers. The VESA group has released the latest DisplayPort version 1.2 that provides an impressive 21.6Gbps of data rate, which make it more than capable of handling 3D, color depths higher than 24-bit and faster frame rates. It is also multi-streaming, a single cable can output two 2560×1600 displays at full frame rate, four 1920×1200 screens, or a single screen with a resolution of 3,840 x 2,400 pixels. In addition, the data channel that was introduced with DisplayPort was also given a boost as it now hits 720Mbps with DisplayPort 1.2, enabling it to run at full speed via the display cable. CinemaView Displays With Mini DisplayPort Connectors

The next generation of CinemaView displays will be equipped with Mini DisplayPort connectors alongside a TV add-on. The new models will be larger than its predecessors and will start with the 24-inch model. The new screen now features four USB ports, 2ms of response time and 1,000:1 contrast ratio. The price still remains at $499 each, but its launch has been moved back two months to October 2009.

Meanwhile, the new CinemaView 47 is a hybrid TV/PC display that comes with similar resolutions as that of a dedicated computer display, although it relies on Mini DisplayPort for input.
