Asus has promised to launch their e-book readers for the US and European markets in March 2010. These upcoming e-book readers will come with a 6- and 9-inch e-Ink touchscreen displays and possibly a dual-screen model. The Asus e-book readers will also feature a range of internet connectivity options including WiFi, 3G, and WiMAX. Asus will make an official announcement before the end of the year. Barnes and Noble has officially confirmed their e-Book reader, the Barnes and Noble Nook. Measuring 7.7-inch x 4.9-inch x 0.5-inch and weighing at 11.2oz, this Android-based gadget comes jam packed with a 6-inch e-ink Vizplex display and a 3.5-inch color touchscreen, AT&T 3G WiFi access, and a 10 days of battery life. Plastic Logic has finally announced details of their upcoming e-book reader that will be released at CES 2010 in January. Measuring 8.5-inch x 11-inch, the gadget will feature a touchscreen plastic display, which is shatterproof. Sadly, there are no info about the battery life and internal storage capacity. QUE users will be able to connect to content and download wirelessly via Wi-Fi and AT&T’s 3G network. Chinese manufacturer Shanzai has launched an e-Book reader namely the Boeye E510. Available in 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, and 16GB of storage capacities, the gadget is powered by a 5-inch (800×600) e-ink display with 16 grayscale level, a 400Mhz Samsung 2416 CPU, and a mini USB port for data transfer. The Txtr is a new eBook reader that was debuted at a book fair in Germany. Measuring 151mm x 12mm and weighing 300grams, the Amazon Kindle competitor will be available in Germany in December 2009 for around $500. The Txtr features a 6-inch (600 x 800) display with orientation sensor, a 8GB of storage (SDHC), a 532Mhz CPU, and a 64MB of RAM. LG has just unveiled its first e-Book reader that integrates a thin solar cell for extending its battery life. Measuring only 0.7mm thick and weighing just 20 grams, this thin solar cell is able to extend the running time of the e-book’s battery by a day, simply by exposing it to sunlight for about four to five hours. These e-Book reader will be available in 100 countries, which means that Amazon wants to dominate the e-Book reader market. You can pre-order the Amazon Kindle for $279 each.
