Available in a 4GB or a 6TB of storage space, the WD My Book Thunderbolt DUO provides a pair of 3.5-inch hard drives in a RAID O stripped array, providing transfer speeds of up to 2Gbps. Amazon has started selling the Seagate Expansion 3TB USB 3.0 desktop external HDD for only $119.99. For your info, the original price was $219.99, so you can save $100. The storage device supports the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface with a maximum transmission speed of up to 5 Gbit/s, which is 10 times faster than USB 2.0 (480 Mbit/s). Buffalo will launch two new USB 3.0 external HDDs in October 2011. Known as the MiniStation Extreme and DriveStation Axis Velocity, both external HDDs support a 256-bit AES hardware encryption to protect your important data. The MiniStation Extreme is a durable external HDD that features a unique wrap-around USB cable, a rugged chassis and shock protection bumpers. The DriveStation Axis Velocity is an easy-to-use external HDD that features a high speed 7200RPM hard drive and an optional 256-bit AES hardware encryption. The Buffalo MiniStation Extreme and DriveStation Axis Velocity will be released in October 2011. Toshiba today introduced the updated version of its Canvio 3.0 and Canvio Basics 3.0 external HDDs. Both models support the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface and a cloud backup capability. The Toshiba Canvio 3.0 comes bundled with the NTI BackupNow EZ software for the Microsoft Windows. What makes this backup software interesting is that it can automatically scan your computer to backup important files to the cloud or to the connected portable storage device. The Toshiba Canvio Basics 3.0 is an entry-level model that has a smaller design than its predecessor. The Toshiba Canvio 3.0 and Canvio Basics 3.0 are currently available in 500GB, 750GB, and 1TB of storage spaces. [CNet]
Buffalo Japan today launched a new ultra-slim USB 2.0 portable DVD drive, the DVSM-PC58U2V. Powered by the USB port, this slim portable DVD drive supports an 8x DVD+/-R read/write speed. The device comes bundled with the CyberLink DVD software suite to burn DVDs and CDs for backup. Available in black or white, the Buffalo DVSM-PC58U2 is priced at 47,000 Yen($40). Read more
LaCie today announced that the Little Big Disk Thunderbolt series is currently available via Apple Store. What makes this storage device special is that it adopts the Thunderbolt technology that supports up to 10Gb/s speeds. Designed by Neil Poulton, the LaCie Little Big Disk Thunderbolt series delivers transfer rates of up to 480MB/s for SSD models and up to 190MB/s for 5400rpm hard disk models. Samsung today announced its new smart media hub, the SE-208BW optical disk drive (ODD). The device combines an external ODD with a wireless connectivity to provide wider end-user benefits. Offering traditional CD/DVD playback and writing capabilities, the SE-208BW features Samsung’s own APP to enable smartphone, tablet and PC users to wirelessly stream and play CDs and DVDs on their smart devices to listen to music or watch their favorite movies.
