Sony Singapore today released its new external hard drives, the HD-EG5 and HD-EG5U. Both HDDs provide a 500GB of storage space and the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface. The Sony HD-EG5 and HD-EG5U portable HDDs come equipped with a pre-loaded Data Transfer Accelerator software that accelerates transfer speeds up to three times faster that its competitors. These hard drives also use the Password Protection Manager software, allowing you to protect your important data using advanced AES 256-bit encryption. The Sony HD-EG5U is a higher-end model that supports AV Link function, which makes playback of AVCHD video on a PlayStation 3 quick and easy. All you have to do is connect it to the Sony Handycam with a supplied USB adapter cable, copy the video, and then connect the drive to the Sony PlayStation 3 to view the video using the company’s Filmy software. Toshiba has unveiled the new Regza Blu-ray DBR-M190 at CEATEC 2011 in Japan. This eight-tuner Toshiba PVR comes equipped with a huge 5TB hard disk drive, allowing you to record up to six digital broadcasts for up to 15-day. Toshiba today introduced the updated version of its Canvio 3.0 and Canvio Basics 3.0 external HDDs. Both models support the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface and a cloud backup capability. The Toshiba Canvio 3.0 comes bundled with the NTI BackupNow EZ software for the Microsoft Windows. What makes this backup software interesting is that it can automatically scan your computer to backup important files to the cloud or to the connected portable storage device. The Toshiba Canvio Basics 3.0 is an entry-level model that has a smaller design than its predecessor. Along with the release of the My Passport for Mac, Western Digital has also released the My Passport Studio. What makes this model special is that it offers a couple of FireWire 800 ports that provide a faster data transfer rate than the USB 2.0 interface. Designed only for Mac, the Western Digital My Passport Studio also supports the Apple Time Machine software, password protection software, and hardware encryption. In addition, this external HDD has an all-metal enclosure, which makes it more durable.
