Imation Corp. today announced the availability of its much-anticipated Pro WX Wireless USB hard drive in the US market. Built on Imation’s award-winning platform of external hard drive products, the Imation Pro WX drive is the world’s first Wireless USB external hard drive providing fast data transfer rates, speed and capacity required in today’s graphics and data intensive environments. This external hard drive can transfer data at 15MB/s and provides 1.5TB of storage space, which can store up to 300,000 photos and up to 750-hours of video. German manufacturers Brinell has unveiled the Powerstorage line of hard drives that comes with an eye-catching housing, made completely of exclusive, high-quality materials such as stainless steel, exotic wood, nappa leather or carbon. Dane-Elec has unveiled a series of external hard drives, the So SuperSpeed HDDs and SSDs, that will support the upcoming USB 3.0 standard. These storage devices will provide data transfer speeds of up to 250MBps, which is roughly ten times the rate available in current USB 2.0 devices. The So SuperSpeed drives consist of USB 3.0 HDDs which range in capacity of 500GB to 2TB and come in 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch formats, along with 80GB and 160GB SSDs that have been re-branded as Intel M-25 drives. If your computer doesn’t have an integrated USB 3.0 port, then you can use the Dane-Elec USB 3.0 adapters for PCIe or ExpressCard slots. The So SuperSpeed drives will be released on December 11th, coinciding with the launch of USB 3.0-compatible laptops and PCs. The 500GB HDD is priced at $180. The 1TB Origin Storage portable hard drive comes equipped with built in hardware encryption to protect your secret data. Available in two models, the Pro version features a 128bit AES hardware encryption, while the Enterprise version has a 256bit hardware encryption. Both models comes with an LCD screen that you can use to enter a 18 digit PIN number to access the drive. A-DATA has announced its new waterproof and shock resistant portable HDD ‘SH93′ for the mass market. Coming in 250GB, 320GB, 500GB and 640GB capacities, these external HDDs feature a molded rubber-plastic case and special cushion materials making them both waterproof and shock resistant. In addition, these drives also meet the military’s MIL-STD-810F standard for drop resistance and can withstand being submerged in one meter of water for half an hour. Buffalo has just announced its new SuperSpeed USB 3.0 external HDD, the DriveStation HD-HXU3. Coming in a slick, black glossy design, the drive is available in either 1.0TB, 1.5TB or 2.0TB capacity and provides transfer speeds of up to 125MB/s. The drive is also backwards-compatible and will work seamlessly with USB 2.0-enabled computers, notebooks and netbooks. The DMR-XP200 and XE100 are two new DVD and HDD recorders from Panasonic that feature similar specs and design. The Panasonic XE100 provides a 320GB of HDD and a digital TV tuner, while the Panasonic XP200 has a 500GB of HDD, a digital and analog TV tuner, and a BS/110 CD digital tuner.
