
Sling Media has decided to create an application that connects the Slingbox to Apple’s 3G iPhone. Dubbed as the SlingPlayer, it is an application that allows users to stream video directly from a Slingbox to a mobile device. FYI, the SlingPlayer Mobile is currently available on Windows Mobile, Palm OS, and Symbian phones, and for RIM’s BlackBerry. A Chinese website has showed us a screenshot of the character recognition software for the iPhone firmware 2.0. This interface is designed for finger use. It is capable of operating in both portrait and landscape modes. Unfortunately, it seems that Chinese is the one and only language supported so far. Fortune has reported that AT&T will cut the price of the 3G Apple iPhone, bringing the price down to $199 for customers who sign two-year contracts. FYI, Apple is expected to offer two variants of handset, the 8-gigabyte-memory and a 16-gigabyte-memory model with price tags of $399 and $499 respectively. Apple also has planned to stop supplies of the older model iPhone. The new 3G iPhone will be 2.5 mm thinner than the 11.7 mm original and will have a GPS chip for navigation. The picture above is a drawing based on a device described in a recent Apple’s patent application, called “Dual sided trackpad“. It seems that the company plans to release a clamshell version of iPhone in the future.
In a closed position, this clamshell becomes an ordinary slate tablet computer, with a multi-touch touchscreen.
