Toshiba Lighting & Technology Corp has released two types of LED street lamps that are as bright as street lamps using a 400W mercury lamp or a 180W high-pressure sodium lamp (average road luminance). These new street lamps are part of the company’s E-Core series of LED lamps, and provides an average road luminance of 1.0cd/m2 with an average power consumption of 122W using a 200V input. As a comparison, the power consumptions of street lamps using a 400W mercury lamp (KSC-4) and a 180W high-pressure sodium lamp (KSH-2) are 415W and 195W, respectively.
It is possible to adjust the brightness of the new LED street lamps in several steps and by up to 50% (an input of 200V is required). The life of their light source is about 60,000 hours, which is about five times longer than a mercury lamp and about 2.5 times longer than a high-pressure sodium lamp, reducing maintenance costs.
