
Mercedes Benz has announced its new Splitview Command system for the S-Class models that features an eight-inch screen that displays two images at once courtesy of new adjacent pixel technology. The system only allows the driver to check out the GPS system while the passenger is able to enjoy his/her favorite DVD on the same display. There is no word on pricing, but It will be featured in the S-Class beginning in the summer of 2009. [Newlaunches]

Check out Mercedes-benz newest sport car, the SL65 AMG Black. At $320,000, the car boasts a twin-turbocharged 6.0L V12 engine that produces 661hp and 731 lb.-ft. of torque. It features a five-speed automatic gearbox equipped with AMG’s speedshift software, the Black can hit 60 mph in 3.9 seconds on its way to a gearing-limited top speed of 199 mph. Though the production of this car will be limited to just 200 units worldwide and should be available this fall. [Autoblog]

The new SLR features some Carbon fiber body components, a super-charged 5.5 liter capacity, 626 hp V8 engine, ultra-light forged wheels and a Gold paint job. Mercedes-Benz claims the 2009-bound S400 BlueHybrid to be the world’s first production using Li-ion hybrid batteries. The lithium-ion alternatives are known to offer greater efficiency, as well as a better overall weight-to-power ratio, and are used in the all-electric Tesla roadster as well as in many plug-in hybrid conversions. The S400, unveiled at the 2007 Frankfurt auto show, will use a 3.5-liter V-6 engine complemented by the hybrid system. Mercedes-Benz claims 30 mpg for the S400 and a 0 to 62 mph time of 7.3 seconds with its 295 horsepower. No info on pricing at this stage. [HybridCars]
