Measuring only 155mm x 95mm x 30mm, this Mini NAS is equipped with a 2.5-inch SATA drive bay that can house either a solid state drive (SSD) or hard drive (HDD), a USB port and 10/100Mbps Ethernet connection. Don’t judge a book by its cover. Although the Thecus N0204 is small, this network attached storage is able to hold a maximum of 1TB capacity, thanks to 2.5″ hard drives or SSDs within. Claimed as the world’s smallest NAS, the Thecus N0204 has only a couple of bays with RAID 0, 1 or JBOD configuration. The device is also compatible with both Mac and PC networks and will work with Wi-Fi orGigabit LAN via the Ethernet connection on the back of the unit. LaCie has launched the Network Space 2 Network Attached Storage (NAS) and media server that is designed by Neil Poulton. The Network Space 2 is user friendly thanks to the preloaded LaCie Network Assistant that allows users to customize the dashboard with widgets allowing them to easily access networks, drive information, user accounts, and drive capacity. The device can also stream multimedia files to any UPnP/DLNA compliant devices, including Sony’s PlayStation 3 or Microsoft’s Xbox 360 gaming consoles. The LaCie Network Space 2 features the iTunes server software, which enables Mac or PC users play content directly from the drive instead of their local iTunes libraries. QNAP Systems has recently released the TS-110 entry level NAS server for home and SOHO users. The TS-110 supports a single 3.5-inch SATA hard drive with up to 2TB of total capacity and features a Marvell 800MHz CPU and a 256MB DDRII RAM, which provides high performance with low power consumption. The NAS can be configured with QNAP’s exclusive Q-RAID 1 for high data redundancy. NetGear comes back to the NAS market with the Stora, a home network storage that is designed for first-time users who don’t want to learn server administration. Using the remote access via www.MyStora.com, the device enables cross-platform file sharing, music listening, movie watching and photo sharing from any Internet-connected device. In addition to sharing files over the web, users can also share photos, videos and files between home computers and home media players. The Stora can centralize music collections and play music through iTunes. It can also automatically integrate content with remote photo frames and social networking sites such as Facebook. The N2R1 has integrated WiFi connectivity for easy connection to any 802.11g wireless home network.
