Attempting to challenge Intel, Tilera today introduced the Tile64, a 64-core processor, which is said to be substantially faster than the Intel dual-core Xeon processor. What’s more, the Tile64’s RISC based architecture is clocked between 600MHz and 1GHz. It is claimed to be 10 times faster than Intel’s embedded dual-core Xeon processor; performance-per-watt, meanwhile, is rated at as much as 30 times better. Tilera is now selling its CPU to businesses, pricing a 10K tray at $435 per chip.

Intel has recently announced their 3.0GHz Core 2 Extreme QX6850 quad core processor for standard Intel Socket T (LGA775) boards. The Core 2 Extreme X7800 runs at 2.6GHz and has a 800MHz front-side bus with 4MB L2 cache. Intel says it offers 28% more speed than the Core Duo T2600. The new X7800 offers Enhanced Deep Sleep for better energy saving, and Advanced Media Boost for faster video, photo and music editing. The processor can even be over clocked. In other words, it’s fast.
