MSI iCleaner M800 Robot Vacuum Cleaner

The MSI iCleaner M800 autonomous robotic vacuum cleaner has a similar design to the Roomba. The gadget comes equipped with a highly sensitive ultrasonic sensor, allowing it to slow down, brakes, and changes directions when it approaches obstacles. Measuring 320mm x 90mm and weighing approx. 2.6 Kilograms (including battery), the super-slim robot vacuum cleaner also features full-angle double brushes and is only 5 cm tall to get under tight spots. When the iCleaner M800 runs out of battery, it will automatically return to its recharging cradle and recharges its high-capacity Lithium Ion battery for around two hours. Additionally, it comes with a large-capacity dust collector, so you don’t need to clean it as often. No word on pricing at this time. [Ubergizmo]

DLR Hand Arm System

Researchers at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) have built what’s probably the most advanced and tough robotic arm ever. Known as the DLR Hand Arm System, this robotic hand has an anthropomorphic design and packs 52 motors, ultra-miniaturized control electronics, a supercapacitor-based power supply, and a web of synthetic tendons stronger than Kevlar. What makes the DLR Hand Arm System special is that its ability to withstand collisions, thanks to ingeniously designed joints and actuators that can absorb and dissipate energy. RoboDynamics Luna Personal Robot

The Luna from RoboDynamics is the first robot to feature a native App Store, standard PC architecture, an open Linux based operating system, touchscreen display, WiFi, and multiple tactically located standard USB based expansion ports for infinite expandability. This 5-foot tall personal robot features an 8-inch touchscreen, a couple of cameras, a wireless connectivity, a three-mic array and a variety of sensors. One thousand limited edition Luna personal robots will begin shipping in 4th Quarter 2011 on a first come first serve basis with corresponding serial numbers for $3,000. General availability of Luna will begin in the second half of 2012 and pricing will be announced later this year. The first 25 of the limited edition Luna personal robots will be auctioned off in the coming weeks and proceeds will benefit the RoboDynamics Educational Outreach Program where we will give away Luna robots to qualified students and university researchers. Samsung VC-RL87W Vacuum Robot With A Video Camera

Samsung is ready to release the Samsung VC-RL87W vacuum robot in South Korea. What makes this vacuum cleaner special is that it has a built-in video camera with a microphone. Using the Samsung VC-RL87W, you can record footage and control the vacuum remotely from your smartphone or computer. The mic also allows you to talk to people using the vacuum as well. What’s more, the Samsung VC-RL87W has turbo mode and edge cleaning modes. Folks in South Korea are able to buy the Samsung VC-RL87W vacuum robot for 799,000 Won or around $700. Read more

iRobot Corp. today announced a couple of new home robots to do your dirty work, the iRobot Scooba 230 and the iRobot Roomba 700 Series. The former is a floor washing robot that is small enough to clean in tight spaces and around bathroom fixtures, while the latter is the smartest and most effective Roomba vacuum cleaning robots to date. The iRobot Scooba 230 and iRobot Roomba 700 Series feature the iAdapt Responsive Cleaning Technology, which is known as the most intuitive, flexible and effective way to clean your floors. This system of software and sensors monitors the environment 64 times per second, using dozens of behaviors to ensure the entire floor is thoroughly cleaned. The dirt-centric technology ensures thorough coverage, including under and around furniture, and multiple passes over the areas that need it most. EMILY Electric Remote-controlled Motorized Rescue Buoy

Designed and manufactured by Arizona-based Hydronalix, EMILY (Emergency Integrated Lifesaving Lanyard) is an electric remote-controlled motorized rescue buoy that can reportedly be deployed in 30 seconds. With the top speed of 24mph, EMILY is able to reach a troubled swimmer much faster than a human would be able to. EMILY is powered by a Jet Ski-style impeller that sucks water in from the front and shoots it out the back. Once it reaches the troubled swimmer, EMILY’s shore-based operator is able to communicate with them via an onboard camera and two-way radio system. Weighing at 24 pounds (11 kg), the basic version of EMILY can travel at maximum speed for up to 15 minutes, and has an RF range of up to one mile (1.6 km). Hydronalix sells EMILYs for US$3,500 each. Daiwa House Crawlspace Robot

Daiwa House Industry today announced a new crawlspace inspection robot namely the “Moogle”. Measuring 50cm x 30cm x 24cm and weighing 13 Kg, the “Moogle” comes jam packed with a couple of cameras (a wide-angle CMOS camera for driving and a CCD camera for inspections), LED inspection lights in three levels of brightness, and four continuous-track crawlers. This robot can be controlled from a laptop via Wi-Fi. The Daiwa House “Moogle” will be launched in April 2011. We will keep you posted. [Akihabara]
