Seagate is gearing up to release its new high-performance 2TB 3.5-inch drive for the mass market. Called the Barracuda XT, the drive offers a working speed of 7200RPM, a 6Gbps SATA interface, a 64MB of cache memory, four 500GB platters and delivers a maximum sustained data rate of 140MB/s. Seagate has released the FreeAgent DockStar Network Adapter which is specially designed to be used with the FreeAgent Go range or portable hard drives. Once the device is connected to the network, you can access your data from anywhere over the Internet, or on your home network. You can even access your files at home from anywhere in the world thanks to built-in Pogoplug functionality. What makes the DockStar more interesting is that it is also compatible with both Mac and PC platforms. Seagate has rolled out a new HD media player, which is designed to be used with Seagate FreeAgent Go portable hard drives. Known as the Seagate FreeAgent Theater+ HD, the device can be connected to your HDTV via HDMI port. The HD media player provides full HD video at 1080p with DTS 2.0 + Digital Out, or Dolby Digital technology. The interface is easily navigated with the included remote control, and you can choose from video, photos or music with the up/down arrows on the remote to make your selection. The Seagate FreeAgent Theater+ HD is currently available for $150 without a hard drive, or bundled with a 500GB FreeAgent Go drive for $290.
