Seagate Readies 6Gbps Barracuda XT Drive

Seagate is gearing up to release its new high-performance 2TB 3.5-inch drive for the mass market. Called the Barracuda XT, the drive offers a working speed of 7200RPM, a 6Gbps SATA interface, a 64MB of cache memory, four 500GB platters and delivers a maximum sustained data rate of 140MB/s. Seagate has rolled out a new HD media player, which is designed to be used with Seagate FreeAgent Go portable hard drives. Known as the Seagate FreeAgent Theater+ HD, the device can be connected to your HDTV via HDMI port. The HD media player provides full HD video at 1080p with DTS 2.0 + Digital Out, or Dolby Digital technology. The interface is easily navigated with the included remote control, and you can choose from video, photos or music with the up/down arrows on the remote to make your selection. The Seagate FreeAgent Theater+ HD is currently available for $150 without a hard drive, or bundled with a 500GB FreeAgent Go drive for $290. The Seagate Replica is a new external USB storage system that is designed to backup everything inside your computer’s hard drive including system files, program files, documents and settings.
