Compared to other miniature hearing aids available, iMini packs in more advanced technology to help you hear your best. It is placed deep into the bendable, cartilaginous portion of the ear canal where it does its job in amplifying the noise of your surroundings, while staying hidden from sight. Siemens has rolled out a new medical device, which is known as the miniTek Remote. The device syncs all your high-tech gadgets with your hearing instruments, and connects you to multiple devices simultaneously. This audio platform connects the hearing instruments to nearly every type of modern electronic communications and entertainment equipment using wireless standards such as Bluetooth or a 3.5mm audio jack. Adapters that are connected to a TV, for example, make it possible for the sound to be transmitted via the “miniTek” to the hearing instrument wearer. Furthermore, the system can connect the hearing instruments with the FM transmitters commonly used in schools and elsewhere and with the induction loops installed in movie theaters or function rooms. At the same time the miniTek also stays connected to phones, which signal incoming calls directly to the hearing instruments. If the wearer accepts the call by pressing a button on the miniTek, the instrument automatically switches over from the television or stereo feed. When watching TV, a person can also indulge in a conversation at the same time. The integrated rechargeable battery lasts a day depending on use and can be completely recharged in only three hours. Electronics giant Siemens has recently introduced new green phone concepts known as the “Gigaset Eco Visions”, “Leaf” and “Solar”. These green phones are made of recyclable raw materials, such as eco-plastic and liquid wood. Siemens has collaborated with PalmSecure to develop a device that works like a fingerprint reader, except that it scans the palm of your hand and tries to recognize the vein patterns underneath your skin which are unique to each of us. This is an interesting way of using biometrics and is probably a bit more secure than fingerprint readers because the user doesn’t actually leave his/her palm print on the device. This technology will work for niche markets including banks or hospitals.

BenQ-Siemens will launch the new EF61 cell phone in Taiwan soon. The phone is a beautifully designed clamshell with 1.8-inch TFT LCD color screen capable of displaying 260k colors at 128 x 160 pixel resolution. It also has a MP3 player with 1.3MP CMOS camera which gives 4x digital zoom. This handset also has Bluetooth connectivity and microSD card slot for additional storage. The BenQ-Siemens EF61 weighs just 99grams with the dimensions of 88mm x 46mm x 23mm.
