ChumAlong is a solar photovoltaic panel that provides you off-grid power anywhere you go. It is perfect for hiking and camping. As the sun’s position in the sky varies during the day, ChumAlong’s job is to make sure the Solar Panel is always pointing at the brightest point in the sky. Each unit features a micro-controller technology, single axis positioning, geared stepper motor gear/worm gear drive train, four optical sensors, three LED modes, auto wake up and shutdown, and so much more. AU KDDI and Sharp will release a spanking new cell phone in Japan that will come with a solar panel embedded in its lid, allowing you to recharge your handset wherever you go as long as there is sufficient sunlight. The phone can be recharged rapidly. A 10 minute charge under direct sunlight is perfect for one minute of talktime or two hours of standby time. The phone will be released in June, so it is perfect for use during summer season. [KDDI via Upcoming Cell Phones]

Sharp has showed off the new LED-backlit 52-inch LCD TV at CEATEC 2008. The LCD TV comes with solar floor panel which presumably provides at least some of the energy required to power the screen. I think Sharp will make more eco-friendly gadgets in the near future. Good job! [AVING]

The SolarStore panels are a cheap alternative to the hot water heaters. An English company, IDC, has announced to produce an inflatable solar panel and make it commercially available for less than $200. The SolarStore is able to store up to 3 full tanks of water. FYI, IDC is now seeking potential distributors in the UK and rest of the world. [Newlaunches]
