Sony released the PlayStation 3 v1.92 firmware update. The update appears limited to performance enhancements for the PlayStation Store and PlayStation 2 game support.

Sony has recently updated the Sony VAIO Type F with a Blu-Ray drive. The VAIO FZ71 laptop comes jam packed with a 15.4 inch LCD screen, GeForce 8400M GT, Wifi A/B/G/N, 200GB HDD, 1 to 4GB RAM, Core 2 Duo T7250 at 2GHz (BTO up to 2.8GHz), webcam and HDMI. No word on pricing so far.

Sony’s SRS-ZX1 speakers come with the “Mobius Duct” technology which supposedly creates a potent low-frequency response or “better bass than some other low-end speakers. The speakers measure 3.1 inch x 6.6 inh x 7.4 inch and have a built-in amplifier with 2x analog inputs and 20W x 2 channel output. The speakers will be out on October 20th only in Japan for $426.

The 16mm wide MDR-EX700SL is a new addition to Sony’s EX Monitor series earphones which feature sensitivity of 108dB/mW, impedance of 16Ω and provides an output of 200mW. The earpiece comes with multiple layer diaphragms made from high polymer materials which reduce the vibrations while maintaining high sound quality. Its stereo mini plug is also gold plated. Sony MDR-EX700SL earphones will be released in Japan on October 20 for $315.

Sony Japan has introduced the Vaio C series which is designed to look like a shoulder bag and will be available in four glossy colors – pure white, red, indigo blue and luxury pink. This 13.3 inch laptop is powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor at 2 Ghz, 1GB RAM, 160GB hard disk drive, DVD super drive, 1.3MP camera, and Bluetooth. Its battery offers up to 3.5 hours on a single charge. Measuring 335.1mm × 249mm × 38.3mm and weighing 2.5Kgs, the Vaio C series will go on sale from September 8th in Japan for $903.

Sony NWZ-S615F is a new Digital Audio Player that features sweet goodies including 1.8 inches QVGA screen, FM tuner, audio/video player (AAC, MP3, WMA and MPE4, H.264). This new baby is now available in 2, 4 and 8GB versions.

Sony has upgraded the memory size of its Video Walkman up to 8GB. Available in white, black, silver and metallic pink, the Sony NWZ-A818 comes with a USB Cable, MDR-EX082 Headphones and extension cord, CD-ROM with Windows Media Player 11 and MP3 Conversion Tools. Its price tag is $229.99.

The Sony LT HD PC/TV is a mini home theater with an on board Blu-ray drive and a CableCard slot. Its Blu-ray drive is able to record 50GB of HD movie on a single disk, and plays HD movies on its 22-inch widescreen display. If you don’t want to spend $2900 on all that fancy HD stuff, there is an LT standard model that costs $1900, and doesn’t have that Blu-ray drive on board.

According to Japan’s Nikkei Business, Toyota will purchase Sony’s robotics division, including the AIBO, QRIO and the people that work on them. The deal came about from Toyota Chairman Fujio Cho who was on the board at Sony when Sony CEO Howard Stringer decided to get rid of the money losing division. Yoshiya Sato, editor-in-chief of Nikkei Business said that the deal is indeed a “gorgeous combination” of companies.
