
The specification of the Sony PRS-T1 e-book reader has been unveiled. Sony today unveiled the “WhiteMagic” 3-inch VGA LCD module, which is designed for use in smartphones and digital cameras. This LCD module utilizes the newly-developed “RGBW” method, which adds a white pixel to the RGB pixels along with an algorithm that corrects image distortion. The WhiteMagic LCD display module also reduces the power consumption required by the backlight by approximately 50%, while still keeping the display brightness equivalent to that of conventional RGB LCD modules. What makes this LCD module more interesting is that it has a special “outdoor mode”, which successfully improves outdoor visibility of the display by enhancing the display brightness to roughly double, even without the use of any additional power. Sony Japan today unveiled its new commercial-grade ESSP-2000 Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), which has the capability to provide business users with up to at least 10 years of reliable power output without experiencing significant cell deterioration. Designed for small data centers or server farms, the ESSP-2000 uses Lithium-ion iron phosphate cells to achieve its long shelf life and high power output. Sony has introduced three new digital photo frames from its S-Frame Gift series. The Sony DPF-C1000, C800, and C70A offer WSVGA-, SVGA- and WQVGA-resolution viewing panels, respectively. These digital photo frames provide an integrated speaker, a picture slideshow mode, a clock/calendar display mode, and an energy-saving timer. Sony Optiarc America has rolled out the DRX-S90U dual USB bus-powered slim external DVD burner. Sony will release a couple of new Blu-ray recorders in the form of the BDZ-AT350S and BDZ-AT750W. These entry-level Blu-ray players feature the company’s CREAS 4 Image engine processor that produces a sharper HD video quality, a 500GB of internal HDD and 3D video support. The BDZ-AT350S has a single digital TV tuner, while the BDZ-AT750W comes with a couple of digital TV tuners.
