Sprint and Motorola has collaborated to launch a new rugged, push-to-talk phone for Nextel. Known as the Motorola Brute i680, this clamshell meets the Military Specification 810F for shock, vibration, dust, low and high temperatures, radiation, humidity, blowing rain and low pressure. The Motorola Brute i680 comes jam packed with a 2.2-inch internal display with 176 x 220 pixels, a 1.3 inch external display with 120 x 160 pixels, GPS, Stereo Bluetooth, an MP3 player, a web browser, a 2MP camera with flash, a 180MB of internal memory, and a memory card slot. Skiff in collaboration with Sprint are set to introduce their new e-Book reader ‘Skiff Reader’ at this week’s CES. Measuring just a quarter of an inch thick, this thin device boasts a large 11.5-inch 1200 x 1600 ‘Metal Foil’ touchscreen display, a 4GB of storage, a microSD card slot, a miniUSB port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, WiFi and supports 3G connectivity via Sprint operator. Still remember the Novatel Wireless MiFi 2200 portable EV-DO router? Sprint has released a new firmware update for the device that enables the always-on mode when connected to an external power source. Here is a list of new features included in the update:
- Nintendo DS and BlackBerry Curve supported
- Always-on mode when plugged into a power source
- International roaming has been perfected
- New Admin page enhancements
- Roaming indicator fixed
- Sprint Only mode added
- DHCP IP class A, B and C now supported
- WiFi channel now defaults to “Auto”
You can upgrade both Sprint and Verizon versions of MiFi 2200. The upgrade software is currently available via the Sprint MiFi’s web-based admin page. The Samsung Exclaim M550 messaging handset for Sprint is claimed to be the successor to the Samsung Rant. It comes with an alphanumeric and a QWERTY keypad, a 2.6-inch QVGA display, EV-DO Rev. 0 connectivity, social networking applications, GPS navigation, a 2MP shooter, and a microSDHC memory card slot. Sprint has recently rolled out the Sierra Wireless Mobile Broadband USB Modem 598U. This EV-DO Rev. A-compatible device boasts an average download speeds of between 600 kbps and 1.4 Mbps, while upload speeds average 350 to 500 kbps. The 598U is also compatible with EV-DO Rev. 0 and 1XRTT technology and provides an integrated GPS receiver, and a microSDHC memory card slot (up to 32GB). Sprint has finally released the new HTC Touch Pro smartphone. The customers can purchase this handset via online early next week. Or they can also buy it on the Sprint stores on November 2nd, 2008 for $299.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate. In case you didn’t know, the HTC Touch Pro features high resolution touchscreen display, a sliding QWERTY keyboard, expandable to 16GB via SD card, and Video Out to display PowerPoint presentations or media files. Sprint is offering not one but three new handsets for its customers. The low-end Samsung Rant features a basic function to make phone calls and send short messages. Available in red or black, the phone is priced at $49.99 on contract.
Sprint also offers the Samsung Highnote music phone with an integrated loudspeaker for $99.99 on contract. And Finally, the Sprint’s LG Lotus is clamshell handset that comes equipped with a full QWERTY keyboard with a landscape display screen. Sprint will release two new Sanyo mobile phones this month. Dubbed as the Pro-200 and Pro-700, these push-to-talk handsets support EVDO Rev. A. The Pro-200 clamshell phone provides Bluetooth connectivity, e-mail and text messaging. Meanwhile, the rugged Pro-700 is dust, shock and extreme vibration resistants. LG is offering the LX150 with the Sprint network. This clam-shelled beauty has basic necessities such as: a Bluetooth, a 262K color screen on the inside and a monochrome display on the outside, support for Java, web browsing, and polyphonic tones. Sprint now has the LX150 for $105 with a 2-year contract.
