Buffalo just introduced the world’s first USB 3.0-powered 12x Blu-ray burner. Known as the Buffalo BR-X1216U3, this external Blu-ray burner is able to burn 25GB of data as fast as possible on the go. What makes the device more special is that it is also backward compatible with USB 2.0 interface. The Buffalo BR-X1216U3 will be sold in Japan at the end of December 2009 for 39100 Yen ($448). Super Talent has launched their latest SuperSpeed USB 3.0 RAIDDrive which supports transfer speeds of up to 200MB/sec or 10x faster compared to USB 2.0 drives. I-O Data today announced three new USB 3.0 peripherals in the form of a 3.5-inch HDD enclosure sold with either a 1TB or 1.5TB HDD, an ExpressCard/34 Card and a 2 port USB 3.0 PCI Express card. Dane-Elec has unveiled a series of external hard drives, the So SuperSpeed HDDs and SSDs, that will support the upcoming USB 3.0 standard. These storage devices will provide data transfer speeds of up to 250MBps, which is roughly ten times the rate available in current USB 2.0 devices. The So SuperSpeed drives consist of USB 3.0 HDDs which range in capacity of 500GB to 2TB and come in 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch formats, along with 80GB and 160GB SSDs that have been re-branded as Intel M-25 drives. If your computer doesn’t have an integrated USB 3.0 port, then you can use the Dane-Elec USB 3.0 adapters for PCIe or ExpressCard slots. Buffalo will launch the world’s first USB 3.0 external hard drive later this month. The Buffalo HD-HU3 USB 3.0 hard drive is currently available in 1TB, 1.5 TB and 2TB storage capacities. Active Media Products has announced a new series of SuperSpeed USB 3.0 external SSDs, the Aviator 312. Available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models, these pocket-sized SSDs are based on MLC NAND flash memory and provide read and write speeds of 240MB/s and 160MB/s, respectively. These drives are also backwards-compatible and will work in any USB 2.0 or 1.1 port.
