Developed by the Iwata-Yano Laboratory at the University of Tsukuba, the Media Vehicle has been introduced at an IT exhibition in Tokyo. The device has a spherical display on the inside that allows passengers to move around both in the real worth and a virtual reality environment. Unfortunately, the machine can only handle a weight of up to 60kg or around 132 pounds. [Impress]

NAU is currently working on the next generation state of the art interface. The immersive cocoon is a human-sized dome with 360 degree display on its interior, allowing you to reach out and ‘grab’ information from all around you, just like some scene in Minority Report. It opens a new door for complex multiplayer online games where you get to fight off enemies who approach from all directions, or even virtual museums or gyms. NAU hopes to complete its prototype Cocoon by October 2009, with models commercially available by 2014. [CNN VIA Upcoming Videogames]

The INBED 2D bed companion is perfect for those who are lonely. A NYU student has creatively designed an infrared-sensitive light projected virtual girlfriend. You can actually kiss her on the cheek when you slide into bed and she will bury her face in the pillow. Sadly, she is fully clothed and in 2D. [Gizmodo]
