Samsung 2nd Gen Blu-ray Player Debut at CES

Samsung is planning to debut their 2nd Generation Blu-ray player at the Consumer Electronics Show next week. The newer Blu-ray Disc player will cost about 20% less than the current BDP-1000 as well as being equipped with more features.

Sony BDP-S1 Blu-ray Player Finally Released

Sony’s BDP-S1 Blu-ray is finally available for purchase. These players should be in stores now, if not later this week. It has 1080p and HDMI outputs, along with the ability to play back just about all Blu-ray format discs out there now. If you want to save US$400, a PlayStation 3 can also play back Blu-ray movies in 1080p and has HDMI as well.

Sony Has Launches Their 50GB Blu-Ray

Sony Electronics launched their 50GB dual layer Blu-Ray disc in US this week. Each of the 50GB Blu-Ray is able store over four hours of High Definition quality video at a 24 Mbps transfer rate. The Sony 50GB dual layer Blu-Ray discs will be available for $48 each. The discs come with a special re-engineered AccuCORE technology that include a scratch guard, archival reliability to prevent data/image corruption and deterioration, stable writing that reduces fluctuation as the disc spins, and temperature durability to prevent warping during severe changes in temperature and humidity.

Samsung Magic Station MV55 PC

Samsung Korea launched the Magic Station MV55 PC which is the first with Blu-Ray drive for the Korean market. Magic Station MV55 PC is powered by a 3.2GHz Intel Core Duo CPU Pentium D 940 processor and a 256MB Geforce GT graphic chipset. The Blu-Ray drive is also compatible with all types of DVD and CD media available. It will be available in Korea for 2,990,000 Korean Won or about $ 3115.

A Huge Hole In Blu-ray And HD DVD Copyright Protection

German CT magazine has found a huge hole in the copyright protection of Blu-ray and HD DVD movies. By just pushing print screen on a computer, it allows you to copy each frame of a movie. They tested this with the Blu-ray Sony Vaio VGC-RC 204 and the HD DVD Toshiba Qosmio G30 notebook. Using AACS and HDCP, Blu-ray and HD DVD are supposed to be highly secure but it’s not anymore. This device features 1080p pass-through, eight channels of uncompressed audio, and dual HDMI active intelligence, which promises to automatically detect and receive the best possible video and audio signals from connected devices. The receiver supports XM Connect and Play satellite radio capabilities and a “Portable Audio Enhancer” feature. Sony PlayStation 3

Sony Computer Entertainment America announced that they will release the Sony PlayStation 3 in North America on November 17, 2006. It will feature the new advanced RSX graphics chip with two choices of hard drive capacities, 20GB and 60GB. Sony will use a new motion-sensing controller which will feature an integrated six-axis sensing system. Using a Blu-ray drive, Sony confirmed that they will launch a handful of game titles.
