Sigmatek’s SBR-1000 Player

Sigmatek has joined the Blu-ray bandwagon with their new Blu-ray player called the SBR-1000. It’s going for about €250 ($364) and will be the cheapest in Europe. The SBR-1000 supports Profile 1.1 / bonus view features along with 1080p/24, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD and HDMI 1.3 support. Look for this cheap European Blu-ray player this April.

Harman Kardon will be releasing its DVC 600 Blu-ray player this September at IFA ’08 in Berlin at a retail price range between $885 and $994. The DVC 600 also plays DVD’s and CD’s and can upscale video to 720p. Additional features include: DVI, USB, analogue audio and video sockets.

Seems like Blu-Ray is the next best thing to sliced bread and Aleratec tends to agree. The 1:3 Copy Cruiser Blu LS features a LightScribe-enabled SATA Blu-ray burners that can toast BD-Rs at 6x as well as vanilla DVDs and CDs at higher speeds as well as a built-in eSATA connector and a dual channel eSATA host adapter. The only bummer with this awesome Blu-Ray disc duplicator is the high price of $3,199.

Kaleidescape Video Players Will Rip Blu-Ray in 09

Looks like Kaleidescape, a company that is famous for their home theater video players will be going Blu-Ray in 2009 as well as releasing a player that features Blu-Ray, DVD, and CD compatibility, up to 5 simultaneous Blu-Ray playback, H.264, MPEG2 and VCD codecs, online video streaming feature, and Blu-Ray ripping feature with a per-copy fee. There’s no word on pricing or availability.

Plextor Blu-ray / HD DVD Combo Drives

Plextor will release two new Blu-Ray / HD DVD combo drives. The PX-B920SA writes to BD-R at 4x speeds, DVDs at 16x, and CD-Rs at 40x, and reads HD DVD, while the PX-B300SA lacks the BD-R capabilities and just writes to DVD and CD. Both drives are expected to drop this month according to Plextor. Pricing is still unknown.

Buffalo is dropping a series of external optical devices in Europe. This model features a HD-DVD/Blu-Ray combo drive. The drive can write Blu-Ray discs and reads HD-DVD. Expect Buffalo to launch this drive in March in Europe, price is still unknown.

Joone, the founder of the label, says they’re dropping it because Blu-ray titles outsold HD-DVD versions already. So Digital Playground and many other studios will stop selling HD-DVD titles by the end of 2008, barring something dramatic. Now you can look forward to scenes in high def!
