Corsair claims its Flash Survivor USB 2.0 flash drives to be the industry’s toughest USB drive. The device is water resistant up to 200 meters, vibration proof due to the rubber molded collar shielding, and is pre-loaded with a 256-bit AES encryption security application. The Flash Survivor offers a sustained read/write performance of 34MB/s and 28MB/s respectively, which is nearly 500% faster than standard USB flash drives. The 4GB version retails for $59.99, while the 8GB model retails for $129.99.

Other World Computing (OWC) has rolled out a 160GB palm-sized portable hard drive which is claimed to be the world’s fastest portable HDD. Known as the Mercury On-The-Go hard drive, it runs at 7,200 rpm and connects to your computer via USB 2.0 or FireWire 400/800. In addition, its 200GB version runs at a slower 4,200 rpm. The OWC Mercury On-The-Go 160GB portable hard drive retails for $280.

Samsung’s SpinPoint line of hard drives boasts superior performance in a quiet package. This 3.5 inch Samsung SpinPoint S166 comes with SilentSeek and NoiseGuard features that produce 15% less noise than another 7,200 RPM hard drives. The device will be available in 80GB and 160GB capacities, with a noise rate at 24dB and 27.5dB respectively. In addition, it also features a new fly-height adjustment technology, optimized actuator assembly, and an upgraded controller. The new SpinPoint hard drives will be available this month. The pricing was not disclosed.
