There were rumors that there will be an external HD DVD drive for the Xbox 360. It will be released later this year. It was said that the new drive will offer the ability to enjoy HD DVD movies on Xbox and will provide consumers with more choices for experiencing high-definition content in digital form. We can’t find information on shipping dates, pricing, and whether or not the player will support HDCP or HDMI.

Pioneer just released three new DVD players with an HDMI port, the DV-696AV, DV-490V and DV-393. The first two support an up scale in 720p/1080i and the DV-696AV is also SACD compatible. DivX 6 support comes with the DV-696AV and DV-490V. Via Akihabara News.
