The Apple iPad has become an innovative and popular tool used in more and more classrooms throughout the country. However, not all schools can afford the high per-unit costs of iPads for their students. Even though Apple has over 90 percent of the classroom tablet market, according to the Hechinger Report, there are still quite a few efficient alternatives available for a fraction of the cost.
Not much is known about LOFREE but they produce interesting gadgetry that pars the more popular brands. Their latest offering comes in the shape of a portable wireless bluetooth speaker called the EDGE. At 66³ it’s tiny and can be controlled from up to 10 meters away. The power rate is 3W and it plays for 5 straight hours on a 3-hour charge. You could also use it as a handsfree speakerphone, which is a feature other bluetooth speakers may not have. But what really make it stand out is that when you flip off the lights, it can serve as an uber-cool futuristic night stand (see pic below). $49.99
I’m not a big fan of power banks. While useful, I normally prefer to simply bring my charger with me. But there are those odd times when you really need fresh electrons and you are nowhere near a power outlet. With the NomadPlus, you have the best of both. You still have your charger, but it upgrades it into a portable power bank. It simply envelopes your existing Apple charger like an obsessive girlfriend, transforming it into a handy electron carrying juice pumping device. It can charge your iPhone up to 70% capacity, but the good thing is that it can charge your other devices too. $20 if you use the discount code “nomadplus” otherwise it’s $39.
