A Huge Hole In Blu-ray & HD-DVD Copyright Protection

A Huge Hole In Blu-ray And HD DVD Copyright Protection

German CT magazine has found a huge hole in the copyright protection of Blu-ray and HD DVD movies. By just pushing print screen on a computer, it allows you to copy each frame of a movie. They tested this with the Blu-ray Sony Vaio VGC-RC 204 and the HD DVD Toshiba Qosmio G30 notebook. Using AACS and HDCP, Blu-ray and HD DVD are supposed to be highly secure but it’s not anymore. BenQ BW1000 Blu-ray Writer

BenQ BW1000 Blu-ray Writer

BenQ is at it again with a new Blu-ray writer dubbed the BW1000. This beauty comes with a mirror finish and can also read and write ancient optical disc formats like CD and DVD. It will be available in both internal and external form factors.

As far as burning speeds go, it may be a little on the slow side for some people, with the BD-R only burning at 2x; CDs, on the other hand, burn at a respectable 32x. While compatible with just about every optical disc format known to man, including the elusive DVD +/- support, there’s still no price set or a release date for the BW1000. Given how much it does, and the fact that it supports Blu-ray, one would be well-advised to prepare to spend more than a few dollars.
