Marantz has launched their two new universal DVD players with an HDMI 1.1 output and DVD upscale to 1080p. They support audio and video DVDs, CDs, SACDs, DivX and WMA. The players are available either in LARGE size (DV9600) or ULTRA SLIM (DV6001 – 60mm thick). No word yet on pricing and availability.

Phillips has something special for those who lived in a small sized room or those who don’t have much space to place their bulky home theater. The Philips One Piece DVD Home Theater (HTS8100) features a DVD-player with HDMI out and 1080p up conversion, while built-in Sonowave speakers offer surround sound without the rears taking up your living room. The whole package is one, elegant line only broken by a separate subwoofer. No word on pricing and availability yet.

Japanese people seem to be very fond of portable DVD players. Evergreen, a Japanese manufacturer, introduces its latest portable DVD player that reads not only video DVD but also DivX and MP3 CDs. The player has a built-in 7 inch wide TFT display with a resolution of 480×234 pixels, a remote controller, a cigar lighter charger, and a battery with 2.5 hours of autonomy. No word on when this gadget will reach the US soil.

This Bluedot DVD player BDP-2700K provides one composite, one s-video, and one component output connector for displaying videos on the even larger screens of external devices. Weighing just 250 grams and 1.6 cm thick, Plextor PX-608CU is said to be the world’s smallest external DVD writer. This drive supports a host of DVD/CD media, including dual-layer discs, with 4x – 8x write speeds (24x for CD-R/RW) and has 2MB of buffer memory and USB 2.0 connectivity. The drive will be available in October. However, there is no word on pricing yet.
