The Hybrid Assistive Limb (HAL)

An exoskeleton that can be worn by a human is a new type of robot under development at Tsukuba University. This exoskeleton robot has nothing to do with the Terminator movies. The fact is that some researchers at Tsukuba University Japan have developed a Hybrid Assistive Limb (HAL). This technology allows anyone who wears it, the potential to lift up to 10 times the weight of they normally could. The robot is work by figuring out what the wearer’s muscles are doing. The suit then simply reacts. Developers expect that the suit becomes commercially available within the next few years. It will likely cost somewhere around $20,000. Watch the video after the jump!
