On Monday, Toshiba released a new DVD player that improved the look of DVDs on high-definition TVs better than previous models. Earlier this year, Toshiba losed the battle with Sony Corp. with their Blu-ray disc, over Toshiba’s HD-DVD. Toshiba has stopped making HD DVD players. The XD-E500 is launched to cover the still largest market of regular DVD supporter. The XD-E500 not only upconverts standard DVD to 1080p resolution, but also enhances your viewing experience thanks to three user selectable modes: Sharp for added edge detail, Color for richer blues and greens, and Contrast for enhancement of details in darker scenes. The XD-E500 will sell for MSRP of $149.99, twice the regular up-converting players, but it is less than half the price of a Blu-ray player. [Toshiba]

Does Toshiba make any Bluray players yet? If this DVD player also played Bluray disc then this would certainly be an in demand product.
